The Director of Library Services provides strategic and long-term planning, policy development, fiscal management, personnel supervision, and develops internal and external partnerships for the library. The Director of Library Services supports faculty in developing and delivering instructional content within an integrated curriculum. The position will require the provision of instruction to students in the area of information retrieval from medical and biomedical databases, the fields of evidence-based medicine, public health, and research. The Director of Library Services will also provide support in the areas of research, reference, and user services. Service to the College and the community will be an essential function of the position, including committee membership, faculty development, interviewing prospective students, and community outreach. Additionally, evidence of scholarly activity with a record of publication and productivity are valued credentials in prospective candidates.

Library Administration (30% of your time)

      • Serves as the head of the library and is responsible for the direction and administration of library activities
      • Develops, implements, reviews, and updates library policies and procedures
      • Provides leadership in creating and implementing a vision, mission, and strategic plan for the library
      • Prepares and manages the librarys budget
      • Works with vendors to negotiate pricing and create contracts for library resources
      • Builds and maintains the librarys print and electronic collections
      • Collects usage and user statistics
      • Promote and market the librarys services to students, faculty, and other affiliated groups
      • Manages the librarys website using the LibGuides platform
      • Adds content to the librarys social media channels
      • Supervises the Assistant Librarian and all regular classified and temporary hourly staff under their direction

Instruction/Research Support (50% of your time)

      • Collaborates with faculty in the planning, development, and delivery of instruction related to information literacy, scholarly research, and evidence-based medicine
      • Teaches evidence-based medicine and research-related content within systems and longitudinal courses
      • Develops and teaches library-related workshops to faculty and staff
      • Provides research support to the faculty, staff, and students of ICOM
      • Assist faculty and students with scholarly communication topics such as open access, copyright, journal selection, journal metrics, and more

Faculty Responsibilities (20% of your time)

      • Serves on institutional committees and task forces
      • Participates in professional development activities
      • Interviews prospective medical students
      • Engages in scholarly/research activities

Requirements

  • ALA-accredited Masters Degree in Library and/or Information Science
  • A minimum of five years experience in a health sciences-focused library
  • A minimum of three years of supervisory experience
  • Experience with curricular and instructional design helpful
  • Experience teaching information literacy skills preferred
  • Experience teaching evidence-based medicine (EBM) principles and skills helpful
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Working knowledge of the laws and requirements regarding copyright
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library operations, including cataloging, electronic resource management, interlibrary loan, vendor relations, and website development
