This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Full-Time Success Coach in our First Year Experience Program who will be all-in on our mission and who will coach intervention techniques to an assigned caseload of students. The Success Coach will be committed to student-learning by ensuring student access to programs and services by helping to remove barriers to student enrollment and progression and supporting and assisting students with achieving their educational goals.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Required: Associate's Degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Education, Counseling, or related field

EXPERIENCE:

  • Required:
    • Three (3) years experience working with the public on a professional level.
    • Successful teaching experience or presenting to large groups.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in academic advising, success coaching, or related a field.
    • Experience in higher education, retention or student success programming
    • Experience using an early alert/advising system powered by predictive analytics.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a caseload of students experiencing academic difficulty in order to foster persistence and completion.
  • Provide individualized success coaching.
  • Respond to faculty-submitted and automatically generated alerts for an assigned caseload of students.
  • Identify at-risk students within an assigned caseload and prioritize outreach.
  • Communicate with the at-risk students and connect them with appropriate interventions and student supports.
  • Empower assigned caseload of students to effectively communicate with faculty and student services.
  • Engage students in educational and career planning activities to help guide them to achieve their educational goals.
  • Engage with faculty/staff, and other departmental staff.
  • Participate in campus activities and programs as assigned or as appropriate, including teaching the EDUC 1100 course (each semester).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of best practices in student transitions and student success initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and manage deadlines.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and work independently with good judgment in decision-making.
  • Ability to demonstrate computer operation skills such as Microsoft Office and ability to adapt to various software systems.
  • Ability to be a team player, a problem solver, to follow complex directions, interpret data.
  • Ability to remain current with departmental policies and procedures.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules((link removed), Pay grade 11 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Working Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, Business Objects, and various other educational applications.) Flexible schedule may be required to ensure adequate staffing (days, nights, weekends, holidays and varying events).
