This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Supplemental Instructor - Physical Therapist Assistant who will be all-in on our mission and will perform duties primarily related to the instruction of courses in Physical Therapy.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: Associates Degree in Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assistant or a Bachelors Degree, or higher in Physical Therapy.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

Required: Texas license as a Physical Therapist Assistant or Physical Therapist.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Physical Therapy experience in the clinical area in which one is teaching.

Preferred:

  • Evidence of competence in Physical Therapy skills.
  • Evidence of continued education.
  • Evidence of competence in patient care.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend scheduled sessions of courses as necessary to prepare for supplemental instruction.
  • Provide supplemental classroom instruction for the Physical Therapist department.
  • Perform effective teaching activities, directing projects and assisting with student coursework and research.
  • Plan, develop, and present organized instructions and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.
  • Collaborate with instructors and department professionals to provide scheduled embedded support in the development of individual students needs and progress.
  • Create learner-centered lessons with high engagement activities and effective retention practices.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training as required or needed in order to maintain and improve professional development.
  • Attend briefings on clinical procedures and general program policy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must understand and apply learner-centered and high impact instructional methods.
  • Must have skills in computer operation/multimedia classroom instructional software and be willing to learn new computer software.
  • Ability to work under stress, work independently and as a team member, and deal with students in a professional manner.
  • Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft Office products and virtual platforms to support student learning.
  • Ability to display a positive attitude when interacting with students, teaching assistants, administrators, staff and the public.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for the orderliness of the learning environment and in the appropriate and safe use of instructional facilities and equipment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to: multi-task; use different teaching strategies; simplify complex information.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules((link removed), Pay grade 10 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events as necessary or scheduled). This job may operate in a variety of clinical settings.
