The City of Dover is seeking an energetic individual to fill the Deputy Library Director position who is the assistant to the Library Director and acts as Library Director in their absence. The position is part of the management team.

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week exempt position. Weekly salary range is $1,507.20 to $2,182.80. Position is open until filled.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position. The listed examples may not include all duties found in this class):

1. Assists in the daily oversight of the Library including staff & patron supervision and facilities management.

2. Promotes the mission and strategic goals of the Library.

3. Participates in annual budget development and tracks budget numbers through the fiscal year.

4. Works with the Director and Library staff to positively promote the Library and its services through outreach and marketing, including social media.

5. Attends meetings and works on Committees and Commissions at the direction of the Library Director, including Library Trustee meetings.

6. Research and apply for grants that further the mission of the Library.

7. Determine department coverage needs and create work schedules for Library staff, using online scheduling software.

8. Works in tandem with Library Director in supervising staff.

9. Participates in recruitment, interviewing and recommendations for hire.

10. Serves as a member of the collection development team ordering both print and digital material.

11. Serve as Passport acceptance agent.

12. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and agencies and the general public.

13. Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:


1. Excellent written, oral and analytical skills.

2. Experience in management and supervision including long term planning, program development and the administration of library operations.

3. Strong awareness of current library trends as they relate to the needs of our users and potential users.

4. Experience with an ILS (Koha is a plus).

5. Excellent computer skills with an understanding of current hardware and software.

6. Strong customer service skills imperative, and experience working in a fast-paced public library.

7. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with department heads, employees, and the public and to deal with service problems courteously and tactfully.

8. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.


EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program; five (5) years experience in professional librarian work; (2) years experience in a supervisory capacity; Passport Certification from Department of State. Valid motor vehicle operator license.
