Duties

  • Loads laundry baskets, linen racks, hampers, uniform racks at designated points and delivers to designated points.
  • Responsible for delivering all medical center linen by enclosed cart directly to each patient unit and using areas.
  • All soiled linens will be picked up from a collection point in each building, either from the unit proper or the soiled linen chute room.
  • Must know all pick up and delivery schedules and proper days for pick up from the unit or other designated areas.
  • Operates vehicles with a gross weight of less than 22,000 pounds and capable of carrying loads up to four tons.
  • Performs vehicle maintenance such as tightening and loosening connections, checking oil, battery, and cooling system levels and is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and fumigating the vehicles as required.
  • When not driving and delivering linen supplies, employee will rotate in the are of assignment of the Laundry Machine Operator, which will involve operating chemical feeders, washers, conditioners, extractors, and drying equipment.
  • When not driving and delivering linen supplies and when Laundry Machine Operator is on duty, the employee will perform housekeeping duties in various areas of the medical center.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Work schedule may include weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Incumbent must take into consideration the physical limitations of the young adult, middle adult, and the geriatric patient when performing all assigned responsibilities.

Light physical effort tis required in reaching, bending, climbing, and moving hands, arms, and legs while operating the motor vehicle.
Moderate physical effort is required in the frequent handling of clean and soiled linen. Incumbent is required to push heavy carts and lift laundry bags in excess of 50 pounds.

Complicating factors which may occur when dealing with the young adult, middle adult, and the geriatric patient must be fully realized and appropriately addressed. These issues may include communicative disorders, severe cognitive disorders, unique emotional/behavioral reactions, and various physical limitations.

Incumbent's work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather and is subject to a considerably changing environment. While working inside, incumbent may be subject to heat, cold, foul odors, noise, and humidity. Incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing such as gloves and gowns when handling or sorting contaminated linen.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
