- Prepare Instrument Department related client deliverables, including data quality of said deliverables and contributing to end of job reports.
- Providing real-time QC of recorded seismic data.
- Undertake proactive maintenance of the onboard and in-water Instrument Department related equipment.
- Systematically working to minimize downtime.
- Preparing Observer logs and any other necessary reports and forms.
- Maintaining inventory for equipment and spares on a daily basis.
- Assisting the Chief Observer in establishment of a safety culture and taking corrective action as situations may require.
- Participating in safety meetings and drills as required.
- Managing the assigned shift onboard as directed by the Chief Observer to ensure the Instrument Department operations are carried out according to Our Commitments and PXGEO procedures.
- Assisting the Chief Observer to ensure the high professional standards of all department related client deliverables is maintained.
- Communicating with on board client representative in related matters during the assigned shift and at the direction of the Chief Observer.
- Systematically working to reduce and minimize downtime.
- Overseeing the department planned maintenance routines are followed during the assigned shift.
- Actively and systematically seeking and suggesting improvements and innovations.
- Supporting the Explore Green initiatives and ensuring that Instrument Department tasks carried out during the assigned shift take into consideration their environmental impact and any residual impacts are mitigated accordingly.
- Ensuring that all waste generated from the Instrument Department work practices is recorded, minimized, reduced, re-used, or recycled.
- Ensuring that when evaluating materials for department use a green alternative has been considered and if the green alternative is found to be an adequate replacement, suggesting its purchase.
- Assisting in the training and mentoring of junior department personnel
- Assisting with the loading and unloading of Instrument Department supplies and inspecting the delivery for accuracy and quality.
- Ensuring all such supplies are sufficiently stowed and secured accordingly prior to getting underway.
- Maintaining the Observer logs and other necessary reports and forms.
- Assisting in maintaining and updating the PMS, procedures, checklists, and other internal or external publications relative to the Instrument Department.
- Assisting with EHS audits as mandated by PXGEO policy and as circumstances require.
- Following the onboard chain of command structure and duties assigned under the Station Bill.
- Assisting with the Instrument Department filing system in accordance with the standard set forth by the PXGEO.
Requirements Bachelors or Masters Degree in technical subjects including: - Electronics
- Computing
- Geoscience
Or equivalent vocational or military background.
