This role is responsible for operations, maintenance, and patient care in various correctional settings and locations. The Obstetrics Sonographer provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Explaining sonographic procedures to patients, answering questions, preparing patients by applying the gel to the skin, and positioning the patients on the table. Ability to educate patients about safe and appropriate testing; thoroughly explaining procedures, answering appropriate questions and calming concerns. (Limited in correctional setting)
  • Perform diagnostic examinations according to standardized protocols to provide the best possible results: Ensure that the ultrasound produces images that a physician can use to assess a patients condition and make diagnostic decisions if necessary.
  • Perform OB/GYN ultrasound scans and/or Doppler ultrasound scans.
  • Provide physicians with images of the female reproductive system.
  • Ensuring clear images for diagnostic purposes and making adjustments to the sonographic equipment when necessary.
  • Monitoring and caring for patients to ensure their safety and comfort during the procedures.
  • Selecting and examining images, looking for differences between healthy and pathological areas, and determining if the scope of the exam should be extended, based on preliminary findings.
  • Presenting the sonograms and preliminary findings to the Physicians.
  • Maintaining and cleaning the sonographic equipment.
  • When you create sonograms for obstetrics patients, you scan the abdominal area to provide a 3D-4D image of both the mother and fetus. Your responsibilities during a gynecological scan include creating sonographic images of the female reproductive system.
  • Obtains necessary information including medical history, patient evaluation, and assessment forms if necessary.

OTHER PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Other duties that may arise from time-to-time and/or are commensurate with the title and position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and relevant certification required.
  • An associate or bachelors degree in sonography.
  • Basic Life Support/CPR
  • Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in a minimum of two concentrations. (RDMS) in Abdomen, Ob/Gyn, Breast or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
  • Two (2) years of experience in OB/GYN sonography.
  • Meet continuing medical education requirements according to the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  • Strong technical, communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while working in a fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to wear PPE for extended periods of time without restriction.
  • Must possess the physical capability to lift, bend, and perform other physical tasks requiring a minimum strength of 50 lbs.
