Position Summary:

The Product Specialist plays a pivotal role in supporting the sales and business operations within the chemical industry. This position combines sales support and data analysis to facilitate decision-making processes and drive revenue growth. The incumbent will collaborate closely with sales teams, management, and other departments to ensure efficient and profitable business operations. This role will report directly to the Product Manager.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • RFQ Management: Lead the process of managing Requests for Quotations (RFQs), coordinating with suppliers, comparing pricing and services, and making recommendations to senior management. Ensure all RFQs are responded to in a timely and professional manner.
  • Commercial Forecasting: Lead the process for annual operating plan and quarterly forecasting.
  • Business Analysis: Analyze sales trends, profitability, and revenue targets. Develop strategies to optimize pricing and improve sales performance.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct market research and competitor analysis to understand industry trends. Translate findings into actionable strategies to gain a competitive edge.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments, including sales, marketing, and operations, to align strategies and ensure effective implementation. Provide training and support to sales and customer service teams on pricing-related matters.
  • Reporting: Generate regular reports on business performance and provide updates to senior management including but not limited to commercial forecasts and presentations.
  • Competitive Intelligence: Document, organize, and maintain competitive intelligence, market trends, and emerging industry developments. Gather relevant data and insights to understand competitor strategies, strengths, and weaknesses. Use competitive intelligence to refine commercial plans and identify opportunities for competitive advantage.
  • Pricing Administration: Implement pricing updates, customer notifications, and changes across various systems and databases, ensuring accuracy and consistency of pricing data. Support and guide Price Administrators including but not limited to identifying root causes of invoice errors.
  • Sales Support: Act as the first point of contact for new customer inquiries, addressing questions, concerns, and requests promptly and professionally. Provide product information, pricing, and availability details to customers. Collaborate with Outside Sales Reps and Sales Managers to determine necessary strategic sales approaches.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in business, Economics, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in inside sales, supply chain planning, or a related role, ideally in the specialty chemical industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with business intelligence tools would be a plus.
  • Experience with RFQ management and vendor negotiations.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Proficient in financial modeling and forecasting techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present findings to senior management.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively.
  • Strong business acumen with a strategic mindset.
