DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner assesses, diagnoses, and treats individuals with mental health or substance use disorders. The Advanced Nurse Practitioner applies therapeutic activities including the planning and treatment of patients with behavioral health issues under the direction and supervision of the Chief Medical Director, and collaborating Physicians.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess patients mental and physical status based on the presenting symptoms and complaints. Averaging 15-17 patients daily.
  • Document patients medical and psychological histories, physical assessment results, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, or outcomes.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including psychiatrists, psychologist, or nursing staff, to develop, implement, or evaluate treatment plans.
  • As a resource to facility staff, provides consultation on nursing practice and psychopharmacology as appropriate.
  • Participate in treatment team conferences regarding diagnosis or treatment of difficult cases.
  • Develops practice protocols for mental health problems based on review and evaluation of published research.
  • Educate patients and family members about mental health and medical conditions, preventive health measures, medications, or treatment plans.
  • Develop, implement, or evaluate programs such as outreach activities, community mental health programs, or crisis situation response activities.
  • Responds to urgent calls from the facility and facilitates problem solving
  • Maintains accurate records on patients treated
  • Maintains accurate daily records for billing purposes and submits in a timely manner as directed.
  • Provides in-service education at the facilities as needed
  • Participates in staff and facility medical staff meetings as needed
  • Participates in activities which enhance professional growth and development.
  • Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards.


Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Licensing:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and certification approved or recognized by the State of California.
  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) as an Adult, Family, Psychiatric or Geriatric Nurse Practitioner. Experience required in the diagnosis, treatment and management of geriatric and / or adult populations required. Credentialed in the State of Texas. Familiar with mental health preferred.
  • REQUIRED LICENSES

  • DEA LICENSE
  • DPS LICENSE
  • ACLS/BLS CERTIFICATIONS (Can be within 30 days of hire)

  • Knowledge/Experience and Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to concentrate on work amidst distractions such as noise, conversations and foot traffic; must be able to consistently meet deadlines; must be flexible in work hours in order to meet patient and organization operating needs.
  • Must maintain self-control in volatile or hostile customer services interactions.
  • High school level reading and writing skills; acceptable oral and written communication skills along with legible handwriting.
  • Customer service skills in face-to-face interactions with dealing courteously with patients, the public, and other staff within the organization.
  • Use of appropriate social skills, including demonstration and respect for patients and staff; empathy toward patients; skills in teaching or assisting with activities of daily living helpful.
  • Must be able to work independently, in a result restricted physical environment for extended periods of time.
  • Skill to independently interpret reference materials to comply with law, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, etc.
  • Ability to apply time management practices to prioritize, schedule and complete work effectively to comply with mandated policies and deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks or parts of tasks simultaneously to ensure timely completion of work activities.
  • Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:

  • Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
  • Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
  • Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic functions; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and information.
  • Vision: see details of objects at close range.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Reach forward, up, down, and to the side.
  • Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time and come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Lift up to five (5) pounds.

    Pay Scale = $180,000-$200,000 Annually
