POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Business Development holds the key responsibility of evaluating, identifying, and cultivating relationships with our customers at the Headquarter or Program level for assigned territory. Additionally, the director will enhance our company's brand and foster customer loyalty. Their core responsibilities encompass pinpointing, establishing, and nurturing sales opportunities, including managing accounts and nurturing end-user relationships with agencies within a specific vertical unit. The Director of Business Development is also responsible for crafting and executing a comprehensive vertical plan and geographic strategy, with direct input from the VP, Expeditionary. The Director of Business Development engages with customers regularly, both through in-person visits and various communication channels. To excel in this role, the Director of Business Development must possess exceptional multitasking skills and employ effective time management techniques to consistently meet or exceed deadlines.

  • Supervise all stages of business development activities to achieve the organization's business and financial goals.
  • Lead the exploration of new strategic business opportunities and partnerships. May advise management on pursuing business collaborations, alliances, and joint ventures that enhance the organization's capabilities.
  • Evaluate potential business prospects through tasks such as market and economic analysis, tracking competitive activity, and identifying customer needs.
  • Contribute to, oversee, and influence the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements, specifications, operating budgets, and financial contract terms and conditions.
  • Collaborate with executive management to establish and execute short-term, annual, and long-term schedules, quality standards, business objectives, and financial goals for the department(s). Also, participate in developing objectives for the broader Group/Company.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for business development. May lead progress review meetings to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance, and ensure continuous communication to all relevant stakeholders regarding project goals and achievements.
  • Identify issues related to business development and provide guidance in devising solutions, which may involve reallocating resources or modifying contract specifications.
  • Maintain business leadership and excellence by overseeing and actively participating in the planning, recruitment, selection, retention, and professional development of the necessary management, technical, and professional talent.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and obligations in all business activities conducted on behalf of the Company. Also, oversee the execution of work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Collaborate with potential customer professionals in product development, improvements, modifications, or changes that could enhance its overall performance.
  • Research target demographics, economic trends, customer needs and interests and other data that can be used in creating strategies for business development.
  • Attend technical training pertaining to the care, use, and technology of the products within your market category. Train customers' employees to operate and maintain new equipment.
  • Study each product offered by our company and be able to persuasively educate and inform customers of how each works and its specifications; understand how to upsell and recommend complementary merchandise.
  • Develop a marketing strategy and proper medium to reach your customer basis.

Additional Duties

  • Interface and effectively communicate with management team, staff, customers, sub-contractors, vendors, business partners and suppliers.
  • Take ownership and responsibility for all aspects of the customer sales process.
  • Submit required reports to management on time:
    • Weekly Sales Report
    • Pipeline Reports
    • Expense Reports
    • Market Study Reports
    • After Action Reports (as required)

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven work experience as a Business Development Director
  • Established understanding of Government Sales and Federal Contracting.
  • Experience working with the Department of Defense, Military, Federal Agencies, Law Enforcement, and commercial private sector.
  • Ability to complete work within given deadlines with little supervision.
  • Ability to carry out skillful negotiations.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree and 5-10 years of Military/DOD Business Development experience

  • Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Sheets, and Docs)
  • NetSuite ERP Noble Primary ERP System
  • Epicor Required within certain calibration with other Market Segments
  • Salesforce Pipeline and Lead tracking
  • Slack App Instant Messaging Application
  • Concur Expense Reporting Applications
  • Pulsify App Individual Review/Evaluation Application

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Required to meet with customers in various environments, with a personal at home office for administrative duties. Office spaces will be available if required at our 3 sales operation centers (Boston, Harrisonburg, or Stevensville)
