THE ROLE:

We are looking for a talented and highly-motivated Manager, Laboratory (Product Development) to join our rapidly growing Research, Nutrition, and Innovation team (RNI). Reporting to the Director, Product Development, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the development and improvement of our products. You will work closely with the Product Development team to perform various laboratory experiments and tests, collect and analyze data, and assist in the formulation and optimization of products. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent record-keeping skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment.

This position is required to be on-site in the AG product development lab full-time to oversee and ensure smooth operations including maintaining lab safety and compliance, organizing lab processes and procedures, and supervising other RNI team members in the lab.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a product development or lab technician role within the health and supplement industry
Proficiency in laboratory techniques, equipment operation, and data analysis.
B.S. Degree in Food Science/Technology, Food Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
Proven expertise in raw materials, food science principles, quality assurance programs and food regulations as it pertains and supports the product development process.
Supports and leads a continuous improvement environment

Intellectually curious and motivated to learn more about the Nutrition, Research, and Innovation strategies for Athletic Greens products
In-depth understanding of ingredients and technology involved with taste formation, application, and stability.
Ability to work independently and take ownership for outcomes while prioritizing and juggling multiple projects
Strong adaptability, flexibility and resourcefulness
Customer-centric mindset who pushes boundaries with the customer journey and experience consistently front of mind
Demonstrated experience and ability in forming relationships with and working with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external, in a remote environment
Ability to share opinions and challenge the status quo with new and innovative ideas
Strong leadership skills with experience in building and supporting teams

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Product Development

Conduct experiments and tests under the guidance of RNI leadership team to support product development initiatives. This includes but is not limited to: powder formulations.
Collaborate with PD senior leadership to design and optimize AG1, considering factors such as taste, texture, nutritional profile, stability, and cost.
Carry out pilot-scale and laboratory-scale production of AG products.
Assist in the formulation and modification of product recipes, including measuring and mixing ingredients.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including RNI and Quality, to achieve project goals and timelines.

Lab Management

Responsible for the day-to-day operations and on-site management of the AG Product Development Lab including but not limited to organize and lead lab processes and procedures (i.e. establishing SOPs), administrative duties, manage on-site team members, and supervise lab activities.
Follow safety protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, and maintain a strong commitment to laboratory safety.
Maintain inventory of raw materials, chemicals, and equipment required for powder shake development.
Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring they are calibrated and in working order.
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the laboratory to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Assist in the troubleshooting of technical issues and provide support in identifying solutions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including RNI, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain, to ensure smooth workflow and effective communication.

Data Analysis & Documentation

Collect and analyze data from experiments, conduct statistical analysis and draw meaningful conclusions, ensuring accuracy, up-to-date, and completeness of documentation.
Prepare technical reports, research summaries, and presentations on AG product development findings.
Document formulation changes, ingredient modifications, and process optimizations for future reference.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and techniques.

AG is dedicated to providing equitable and competitive compensation & benefits packages. For this particular role, the base salary range is $100,000- $108,000 and will ultimately be decided at the offer stage, based on an individual candidates level of skills and experience aligned with the needs of this role. Base salary is one component of total compensation for this position. We provide a competitive mix of base salary, performance bonus, and stock option allocation for eligible roles.
