Are you passionate about contributing to the healthcare industry while utilizing your expertise in medical coding and record analysis? We have an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional to join our team and play a crucial role in ensuring accurate coding and record management. As a member of our dynamic team, you will:

Analyze outpatient medical records to extract the necessary information for the accurate sequencing and assignment of ICD-10-CM and CPT codes.

Confirm the appropriate DRG/APR assignment to facilitate precise billing and reporting.

Abstract and enter data from medical records to maintain a comprehensive database for statistical and reporting purposes.

Review medical records to determine the most suitable ICD-10 CM, ICD-10 PCS, and CPT codes in alignment with coding and reimbursement guidelines.

Verify data in the medical record abstract and ensure the accurate entry of clinical information to uphold the integrity of our database.

Adhere to current UHDDS standards when selecting and assigning the principal diagnosis, principal procedure, complications, and comorbid conditions.

Daily review of unbilled accounts reports and make necessary adjustments to ensure timely coding of all records.

Weekly review of case mix reports, with follow-up on any records requiring re-evaluation.

Actively participate in coding and abstracting quality reviews as required to maintain the highest standards of accuracy.

Assist fellow coders with any coding-related questions and ensure the most appropriate codes are selected for billing and statistical purposes, referring complex queries to the Unit Leader when necessary.

Communicate with physicians for clarification when needed.

Complete interim billing for patients in rehabilitation and transitional care units upon request from the Business Office.

CPC Certification

Proficiency in ICD-10

Skills & Qualifications

1-2 years of experience in general surgery, neurology, or primary care coding.

Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and accurately through medical charts (with a focus on maintaining high-quality, standard-coded charts per hour).

Experience Level

Experience with NextGen or Cerner software is preferred.

Entry to Intermediate Level
