Summary of Responsibilities

We are looking for an individual that can make a difference and add value to our existing team. The Civil Structural Engineer will be a senior level engineer with extensive, hands on, practical experience in civil/structural and design engineering in an environment where standards include (nuclear) safety requirements, site license requirements, regulatory compliance requirements and Urenco state-of-the-art, qualified systems and best practices.

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will be a recognized specialist in their area of expertise with a high, in-depth level of knowledge and problem solving skills. This candidate will also have experience or professional exposure to civil/structural and design engineering.

  • A Bachelors degree or a Masters degree in Engineering or other science or technical field will be considered. Candidates with a Bachelors, or Masters degree with emphasis in Design and/or Civil/Structural Engineering and a Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience of practical application in civil/structural and/or design engineering is required with a preference for 8 or more years of experience with at least 2-3 years of that experience being in an industrial, chemical and/or nuclear environment.

The following skills are preferred:
  • Must be able to independently perform and lead analysis and design activities ensuring plant dsigns and as-built facilities meet site requirements as well as Urencos design and engineering standards throughout the entire asset design life cycle.
  • Must have strong interpersonal verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must be able to represent the site on regulatory matters and articulate compelling arguments.
  • Familiarity with NRC regulatory requirements, particularly 10 CFR70.72 is preferred.
  • MS Office, SAP and other relevant information systems experience/knowledge is strongly preferred.

Job Details
  • The work location for this position is Urenco USA, Eunice, NM - 25% onsite
  • Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/ with minimal night/ weekend support. Some nights and weekend work may be required. Employees are also subject to call-outs as needed.
  • Travel Required: 20% of the time or less as required.
  • Security Clearance Requirement: Controlled Access Area (CAA) Access and an L or Q level security clearance is required.
  • Work Environment: Radiological exposure expectations of < 100 mrem/yr. General Office, Plant Production Areas. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.

Primary Functions
  • Provide basic design of civil and structural components necessary for project development.
  • Perform civil/structural design calculations and prepare calculation packages, details, coordinating with a team of design engineers, drafters, etc.
  • Perform field work to include walk-downs, conceptual studies, checking construction drawings, and preparing project specs and material requisitions as needed.
  • Perform conceptual studies to include cost and planning studies, layouts, design calucaltions, specification development and construction documents.
  • Contribute to the delivery of Front End Engineer of future plant expansions and new construction.
  • Develop procedures and procedure revisions in support of program implementation.
  • Actively promote a pro-active safety culture and perform analysis to create and promote continual safety process improvement behaviors.
  • Ensure advanced plant designs contain safety features based on best industrial practice and lessons learned from an industrial nuclear environment.
  • Perform design reviews and approve, as delegated design authority the designs concerning the expertise area of Process Technology.
  • Provide governance and oversight concerning detailed design and supplier manufacturing quality processes on request of site or group project managers.
  • Establish, control, and maintain Group Reference Design and safety case standards and requirements including: Core UF6 enrichment, critical core UF6 support system requirements, relevant UF6 de-conversion requirements, and all design and safety case requirements in support of UTD activities.
  • Lead Post Implementation Reviews to establish the feedback loop to design Authority from a safety /license compliance, operational and asset management perspective.
  • Perform structural steel design for industrial structures, process structures, tail and truck loading structures, pipe and cable tray racks, platform steel design and other industrial designs as required.
  • Perform reinforced concrete design for equipment foundations, concrete structures, containment systems, plant buildings, retaining walls and other industrial designs as required.

Compensation starting at: $109763- 135510 / year and up dependent on candidate.
