We are in search of a Software Developer II (Java) to contribute to our credit-based financial software products that operate across multiple platforms. As part of our dedicated team of developers, you'll play a pivotal role in enhancing and maintaining Shaw Systems software offerings.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and enhance Java-based applications.
Collaborate with the team to devise architecture strategies and technology roadmaps (API/web service/micro-service).
Analyze user requirements to implement design updates and fixes effectively.
Continuously assess and test application systems to recommend infrastructure improvements.
Work closely with the team to define application objectives, business goals, and functional requirements.
Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of Java-based components and interfaces to create user-centric solutions.
Actively engage with the development team to build and enhance software applications.
Tackle troubleshooting and debugging tasks during releases and technical issues.
Create comprehensive design documentation.
Drive continuous improvement by exploring alternative technologies and presenting them for architectural review.
Collaborate with DevOps and CI/CD teams for operational visibility, incident triaging, and deployment planning.
Requirements
2-4+ years of experience in software development, with expertise in Java, JavaScript, and Node.js preferred.
Strong grasp of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) patterns and concepts.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of SQL, PostgreSQL, or related technologies is a plus.
Understanding of Agile Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and fundamental design principles for scalable applications.
Experience in building RESTful microservices using Java, Spring Boot, or similar technologies.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Skills/Experience
Exposure to distributed cloud architecture and implementations, particularly Azure services.
Familiarity with frameworks like Swagger and/or Postman.
Knowledge of NoSQL, Angular, and React.
Education / Certifications
Bachelors Degree in a related field or relevant work experience.
Location
This Position Offers Flexibility
Hybrid office schedule if located within 75 miles of the Houston, TX or Richmond, VA office.
Remote work with the ability to travel at least 5% from specific states: Texas (if more than 75 miles from the office location), Virginia (if more than 75 miles from the office location), Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Full-time position, Monday through Friday, with varying daily schedules.
Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required.
Weekly hours may exceed 40, based on business needs.
Travel
Up to 5% domestic travel may be required.
