We are seeking a Upstream oil and gas analyst to enhance our coverage of the global upstream oil and gas industry based out of Houston. The role will be multi-faceted and includes responsibilities spanning our global upstream offering. These range from corporate analysis across the energy value chain (including the energy transition) to managing and enhancing our forecasts for North American producers. You will be required to quickly take on an array of responsibilities, and you will play a central role in further building out Energy Aspects upstream offering.

A successful candidate will play an active role in the full cycle of research, with a strong focus on building forecast models, carrying out detailed analysis and writing compelling reports. This individual will help build models to enhance our existing publications and will carry out comprehensive data gathering in a database environment. The individual will also focus on enhancing the visualisation of our datasets for both internal and external clients. Our clients value our views and insights, so you will help shape forward-looking views rather than conduct solely historical analysis. Crafting our analysis will require an ability to sift through a vast array of material to extract the most meaningful trends. You will be expected to consistently produce high-quality work to send to our demanding client base which ranges from traders to strategy departments to the c-suite. We pride ourselves on our product. We are meticulous about maintaining a high standard of accuracy across our services and will ensure adequate training/support is provided to help achieve this.

This position will require flexibility and the drive to go beyond core hours when needed to ensure we all fulfil our goals. All team members are encouraged to build their professional reputation within the energy sector and are supported by some of the most well-regarded commentators in the global energy industry. You must be able to work independently as well as be capable of planning and prioritising to achieve success. In exchange, we offer excellent remuneration, a high-performance culture, and challenging and exciting work.

Duties:

  • Contribute to the development of a corporate energy benchmarking system using an appropriate range of tools to manage large volumes of data.
  • Analyse company financial statements to extract key valuation metrics and assess where future opportunities lie in the energy market.
  • Track and analyse implications of trends in the North American upstream, midstream, and oilfield services industries.
  • Manage regular updates of upstream data files as part of client data service.
  • Visualise data (via dashboards) to serve the wider research team and work with the data team to enhance data offering for clients.
  • Contribute to and enrich existing research publications.
  • Continuously seek to increase your market knowledge and widen your network of contacts.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of financial modelling (PnL, cashflow statements and balance sheets). A CFA qualification would be beneficial.
  • A basic familiarity with the unconventional oil and gas industry and global oil supply trends.
  • Extreme attention to detail in both handling data and written English.
  • Degree in a quantitative subject such as economics or engineering.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively with others (including colleagues in different time zones) to deliver timely

analysis.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience in the energy industry and financial analysis.
  • Experience with modelling NGL supply and demand.
  • Ability to navigate large datasets with Python and create interfaces on Excel.
  • Familiarity with visualisation software packages (such as Tableau and PowerBI).
