The Senior Sales Engineer is responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process and working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate for our products. This position will be able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users. They must be able to identify all technical issues of assigned accounts to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process and customer continuity. The Senior Sales Engineer is to evaluate business processes in order to prepare, present, and promote the sale of business solutions, while ensuring overall sales process quality for proper implementation and profitability of deals. The Senior Sales Engineer is to be proficient in business processes and technical aspects of communications including datacenter infrastructure, mechanical and electrical systems, and IP transit / carrier networking. The typical Senior Sales Engineer has a formal degree and is an expert in the fortification of information technology environments. In addition, the Senior Sales Engineer is to be proficient in interpersonal communications, presentation and teaching skills.

Duties:

  • Participates in customer facing meetings to align strategies and determine business and technical requirements that will be used in developing solutions or solution alternatives.
  • Rapidly determines the fit between a clients requested deployment and the defined deployment criteria of the CoreSite data center. Accurate assessments required to effectively utilize available time.
  • Develops a firm and dynamic knowledge of our technical product to optimize utilization of space and power, and propose future improvements.
  • Prepares and delivers technical proposals, design architectural overviews, and in-depth guided tours of facilities for existing and potential customers.
  • Responsible for driving opportunities by supporting Sales teams in designing, positioning, and proving technology solutions. Helps cultivate a sense of collective ownership of the product.
  • Articulates and conducts in-depth product feature benefit discussions as they relate to CoreSite offerings.
  • Gains customer acceptance by explaining or demonstrating cost reductions and operational improvements.
  • Manages assigned accounts and opportunities to ensure satisfaction and growth of the company.
  • Engages in detailed network, power, cooling, and space assessment of customer's current and proposed IT environments.
  • Prepares cost estimates by studying blueprints, drawings, and related customer documents; consulting with engineers, vendors, and other professional and technical personnel.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Works closely with the sales team on RFP/RFI responses and proposal preparations.
  • Develops sales tools and training materials for presentation to the Sales team, keeping informed on the latest developments in core products and provides product training to CoreSite's internal staff.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Periodic travel for sales meetings, conferences, and training.


Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong and in-depth working knowledge of data center infrastructure and management, mechanical and electrical systems, cloud services, storage, and other technologies found in our customers environments.
  • Deep understanding of various enterprise and carrier networking technologies including enterprise multi-gigabit Ethernet and optical solutions, multi-protocol and converged services, IP VPN (MPLS), Internet/VOIP services, etc.
  • Strategic, analytical and operations-focused, who can recognize market opportunities.
  • Highly ambitious and intuitive self-starter with ability to get things done.
  • Detail oriented with strong interpersonal & presentation skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills to quickly establish strong working relationships with customers as well as company peers.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a technical area, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years experience in Sales Engineering, Systems Engineering, or IT-related field.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license, good driving record, and insurance.

Compensation:

Compensation for this role includes a base salary between $140,000 and $160,000 annually. This role is also eligible for commission and equity.
