Job Title: Development Manager Grants (Philanthropy)

Location: Washington DC

Position: Full-time, Exempt

Salary: $85k - $95k, dependant on experience

Responsible to: Head of Development and Communications, HALO Trust USA

Job Purpose: The Grants Development Manager supports the work of The HALO Trust (USA)s team by executing new and current grant opportunities against a national and global strategy on securing funding from private sources, focused on growth in revenue targets.

This role reports to the HALO Trust USA Head of Development (Philanthropy) and Communications and is responsible for the management and development of several private and corporate grants and other private partnership opportunities to support HALOs fundraising mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create business development strategies that meet the organization's needs and maximize HALOs competitiveness. Aligns proposal ideation with partner missions and HALO priorities to achieve an increase in revenue.
  • Manages the administration of the full-life cycle for HALOs private grants and new awards. This includes preparing proposals, tracking progress, meeting administrative and legal requirements, reporting and closeout.
  • Administers a portfolio of new and current business accounts among family, private, and corporate foundations with targeted annual revenue goals of seven figures and liaisons with the primary account managers for timely asks, reports, stewardship tools, and other communication tools.
  • Generates proposal strategies, outlines, LOIs, RFPs, near-final proposals, sales packets, budgets, evaluations, and support materials, and submits the final application package by the deadline.
  • Collects guidance on grant award requirements and passes it along to the Head of Development, leadership, and international country programs.
  • Assists the Head of Development with account coordination, and prospecting through drafting letters, emails, phone correspondence, project briefs and proposals, and speaking engagements.
  • Performs prospect research and writes, analyses of new prospects and new grant opportunities
  • Maintains clean and comprehensive administrative files and is responsible for assisting with yearly audits of HALOs accounts and awards.
  • Effectively assists account managers to steward donors to ensure they are up to date on our programs and results and feel positive about their support to HALO Trust.
  • Prepares monthly records for all grant-related activities by ensuring data is accurate in SalesForce, with finance, and that new donor information and activities are entered in the databases in a timely manner.
  • Supervises and manages the Units key Associates and Interns
  • Develops annual goals and objectives and performance evaluations for staff, provides day-to-day supervision, and annual evaluation including regular check-in meetings and mentorship; monitors and evaluates performance, and establishes ambitious and achievable metrics to support growing fundraising operations.
  • Manages excellence in tracking of all existing and potential gift commitments, including grant reporting requirements and deliverables in the full cycle of the grant awards.
  • Works with finance staff, and programs to meet accounting and reporting requirements of funders and with communications for contractual outputs.
  • Be available to cover other tasks, as required.

Requirements

  • A bachelors degree.
  • Extensive experience of working in international grant development and management in the international humanitarian sector, government, or UN.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles and practices of grant acquisition, grant writing, and gift administration and fulfillment.
  • Knowledge of international non-profit funding sources, family foundations, and corporate giving
  • Strong proofreading, editing, writing, and design skills.
  • Excellent at checking numerical products like budgets, financial transaction sheets, cost analyses and payroll.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain detailed reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner.
  • Excellent project management skills with experience in managing and supervising administrative projects
  • Ability to plan and manage workflow and deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Possesses the interpersonal skills to interact with internationally based staff across multiple time zones.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Acrobat
  • Willingness to be flexible and maintain a strong work ethic through varied work requirements.

  • Confident in working with financial information including budgets, revenue reporting, gifts, etc.
  • Successful supervisory experience and team member training, support, and evaluation
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to demonstrate tact, sophistication, and gravitas.
  • A commitment to HALOs mission and objectives
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and the ability to articulate HALOs various programmes and strategies in a compelling way.
  • Tenacious, self-starting, and able to thrive in a fluid, entrepreneurial context
  • Collaborative team player with a good sense of humor and a low ego

All HALO staff are expected to undertake the following general duties:

  • Work within the framework of HALOs core values, promoting its ethos and mission statement.
  • Work towards achieving program and/or group business plan objectives.
  • Ensure familiarity with and adherence to all HALO policies and procedures and keep informed of HALO activities.
  • Travel within the US and overseas as and when required.

  • Vacation Time: 25 days (5 weeks) paid vacation (PTO) accrued at 16.667 hours per month.
  • Sick Leave: 5 days (1 week) paid Sick-Leave. Sick Leave cannot be carried over to the next year.
