Founded in 2004, Brilliant Corners provides innovative housing and housing-related services to those transitioning from or at risk of homelessness or institutionalization. We develop, own, and manage multi-family supportive housing and licensed residential care homes. Additionally, we implement a broad array of scattered-site, one-on-one supportive housing and clinical case management programs through partnerships with developmental services, homeless services, veteran services, and healthcare sectors.

WHAT IS A HOUSING COORDINATOR?

The Housing Coordinator will provide housing locator and retention services to youth who are 18-24 years of age at the time of enrollment and who are transitioning or diverted from homelessness or institutions. The Housing Coordinator will work directly with youth, external case management partners, service providers, and landlords/property managers to ensure youth are housed and successfully retain their housing over time. Once the youth is housed, the Housing Coordinator will conduct weekly, monthly, or quarterly housing retention visits to support the youths well-being and ensure that unit habitability aligns with the lease agreement. The Housing Coordinator will work creatively to prevent eviction and solve other housing-related issues.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all phases of youth move-ins into scattered-site and supportive housing units. Examples of such activities include but are not limited to support with filling out housing applications, coordinating and attending unit viewings, ordering furniture and home set items, and ensuring all move-in costs are requested and delivered to the landlords/property managers.
  • Collection of proof of income, calculation of rent contribution, and communication to youth regarding rent contribution.
  • Communication to youth about Rising Up policies and expectations.
  • Liaison between youth and the Intensive Case Management partner.
  • Work independently and/or with the Housing Acquisition Specialist team to assist with housing placements and assignments.
  • Regular data input into the internal Salesforce system and external ONE System.
  • Ensure youth well-being and unit habitability through a regular schedule of housing retention, unit inspections, and wellness checks.
  • Respond to housing and tenant-related emergencies during normal business hours and communicate urgent matters to the Manager for after-hours emergencies.
  • Master the housing rights of people with disabilities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Fair Housing Act, As Amended in 1988.
  • Assess the need for reasonable accommodations/unit modifications and ADA compliance and assist youth through the process of obtaining the request.
  • Educate community members about the housing needs of identified youth and the importance of supportive housing.
  • Submit and follow up on tenant maintenance requests.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate progress notes, files, and correspondences while maintaining the confidentiality of youth, staff, and organizational information always and exercise appropriate boundaries with participants.
  • Routinely make home visits and phone calls to program participants
  • Attend all agency staff meetings and trainings, as well as department meetings and case conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor or Program Manager.

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of one year of work experience in non-profit human services is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, veterans, and developmentally disabled populations.
  • Experience working with the Transition-Aged Youth (TAY) population.
  • Knowledge of different housing models, particularly rapid rehousing, is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle is preferred but not required. If utilizing a personal vehicle, possession of a valid California drivers license, a clean driving record, and automobile insurance is required.
  • Ability and comfortability with navigating public transportation throughout the Bay Area.
  • Basic computer knowledge, MS Word and Excel required; PowerPoint preferred.
  • Flexibility is required regarding scheduling and prioritizing tasks.
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills in decision-making situations, good organizational and record-keeping skills, and good independent judgment.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally required to lift, push pull up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to climb stairs.
  • Must be able to work in a climate-controlled office environment.
  • Vision must be good or corrected to normal to perform normal job duties.
  • Hearing must be good to have the ability to understand information to perform job duties.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods up to 8 hours.
  • Manual dexterity is needed for keyboarding and other repetitive tasks.

Travel Requirements

This position requires frequent visits to properties, attendance to on-site partner meetings, community meetings, funding workshops, training, and other events, primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area. Opportunities to attend events outside San Franciscos Bay area, including Brilliant Corners sponsored events throughout California or nationally, may also be presented for this position.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

If driving a personal or company vehicle, a valid, clean CA drivers license and personal auto insurance are required.

Salary range for this position is $24.04 - $29.14 hourly. This position is being offered at $26.44 hourly, non-exempt.
