Position Summary

DroneUp is looking for a Flight Test Specialist, Drone Pilot to join our developmental flight test team. The Flight Test Specialist, Drone Pilot will help test new UAS technologies for various applications across our organization. This role requires a rigorous approach to testing complex systems and their capabilities across a wide spectrum of environmental and operating conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Execute test flights at our testing facilities
  • Act as Flight Test Project Lead which will involve coordinating with other teams for the planning, scheduling, execution, and reporting of the test project
  • Draft ground and flight test plans, test cards, and reports
  • Leverage understanding of operational characteristics of the system under test (SUT) to contribute to the systems design or implementation
  • Understand and be able to maintain basic SUT and test aircraft configurations
  • Perform hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Assist in validating new consumer facing software features
  • Able to operate data collection systems and post process flight test data
  • Contribute content and review flight manuals and other technical publications
  • Provide suggestions to improve processes, documentation, and the safety of the flight test organization
  • Improve the DroneUp end-to-end experience, working closely with the engineers to identify and close major issues
  • Operate and/or fly complex and dangerous R&D flight missions, adhering to a high level of safety and systems understanding
  • Fly aircraft in various weather conditions for 5 - 8 hours consecutively depending on assigned project
  • Use sound problem-solving techniques, and technical and operational knowledge/experience to provide solutions to variety of problems
  • Willingness to travel to test sites around the country. Travel expected to be <25%
  • Other duties assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or technology related field or 2 years of relevant experience
  • Part 107 Certification
  • Previous experience within a testing organization
  • Previous experience with home-built UAS
  • Previous experience with DU Watts Prism Sky (Preferred)
  • Experience testing web-based applications
  • Detail-oriented communication and documentation skills
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and understand various sUAS platforms and the systems they utilize

Salary:

Just like drones themselves, your earning potential can soar to new heights, but it largely depends on your qualifications and expertise. If you are recognized as an industry expert, your earning potential can take true flight. The target salary range for this position is $75,000 to $95,000. Your unique qualifications and contributions to the field will play a significant role in determining your precise compensation. The total rewards for this position may also include; potential for annual bonuses, benefits package, paid time off, and more.
