An assessor I or II discovers, lists, and values all taxable and exempt properties in Blair County. Essential duties include conducting residential and commercial inspections; sketching and listing information within a home or building; determining the assessed value of multiple sites, adhering to local and state parameters; recording information in department computer system; answering questions and explaining information to property owners in office and in field; checking entries for accuracy; coordinating and collating tax maps; processing reports; handling cash; driving a County vehicle; attending continuing education classes provided and paid for by employer to obtain and/or maintain Certified Pennsylvania Evaluate (CPE) credential; performing varied clerical tasks; and assisting with appeals process as necessary.

Requirements

Qualified applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED; minimum of two years' work experience, preferably within tax assessment, property appraisal, or other related field; a valid CPE is preferred at hire or must be earned at employer expense within one year of placement into position; valid Pennsylvania driver's license; demonstrated abilities to navigate computer programs with agility; superior attention to detail; strong customer service orientation; willingness and knowledge to work well independently; moderate math skills; ability to use tape measure; ability to read maps and navigate accordingly; proficient organizational skills; ability to maintain confidentiality; demonstrated experience setting schedules and meeting deadlines; and ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data.
