Deep Origin, a vision-led venture striving to sculpt the future of life sciences, is accelerating drug discovery by developing an integrated ecosystem of life science technology tools spanning bioinformatics, experimentation, simulations, computational chemistry, data, and Al/ML.

As a senior member of our scientific development team, you will help shape the fundamental scientific capabilities of our platform and product offerings while supporting the needs of our valued partners and clients. You will play an integral role in driving the ongoing advancement and success of our product and supporting our developing portfolio of partnerships. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to gain experience working with a diverse array of scientific applications across multiple therapeutic domains and work within a fast paced startup organization.

This is a cross-functional role spanning scientific development, product development, and customer success. The ideal candidate is a scientist who has the mindset and drive to deliver the best possible experience for Deep Origins customers, and strives to accelerate life sciences R&D through cutting-edge software.

Responsibilities

  • Keep up with the literature to understand the latest methods and tools across bioinformatics and computational biology.
  • Identify tools, datasets, workflows, and notebooks that would bring value to Deep Origins scientist users.
  • Make these tools, datasets, workflows, and notebooks accessible to scientist users by integrating them into the Deep Origin platform, ensure rigorous testing, and write documentation.
  • Support Deep Origin customers and users by troubleshooting scientific applications that we provide and rapidly shipping fixes.
  • Engage with customers to aggregate feedback and report this to the product team.
  • Think holistically about the suite of Deep Origin products and how our products can improve to better serve customer needs.
  • Occasionally work on contract projects for customers, which may involve developing bioinformatics workflows or performing computational analysis of different data types.
  • Represent Deep Origin and its offerings at conferences, trade shows, and customer events.
  • In partnership with the marketing team, develop blogs, use cases, tutorials, and instructional videos.
  • Occasionally develop novel bioinformatics workflows or tutorial notebooks, which would be released as unique offerings on the Deep Origin platform.

Location

Deep Origin is located in South San Francisco, CA. We prefer candidates who want to work with our team in person, but we will consider exceptional remote candidates located in the US or the Americas. We will reimburse the employee for relocation.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • A masters degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • 2+ years postgraduate experience in scientific development in academia or industry. For example, developing pipelines, analytical software, visualization tools, or maintaining scientific software packages.
  • Expertise developing scientific software in Python, R, or similar.
  • Experience with Linux, docker, and systems for packaging scientific software.
  • Experience with workflow management systems, such as Snakemake, Nextflow, and CWL.
  • Strong life science background and understanding of how data flows from the lab, through computational biology, and into decision making.
  • Experience working with and interpreting multiple types of -omics data.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Bias towards action and a general tendency towards autonomy.

Nice to haves

  • Experience working on a software product, or as part of a team delivering high-quality software.
  • Experience working as a systems administrator, either in an academic or industry setting.
  • Experience working with cloud computing technologies.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience operating in an early stage company.
