IT Concepts is seeking a Technical Writer with project management skills to document formal white papers associated with statistical research for the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, MD. We are seeking individuals who have experience with formal research/statistics outside of the academic industry. Ideally this individual will have prior federal government experience.

Background

The Office of Research, Evaluation, and Statistics (ORES) of the Social Security Administration (SSA) produces and publishes research and statistics on the SSA website (www.socialsecurity.gov/policy). Almost 1,000 relevant SSA statistical data tables, research datasets, and charts are produced and published, across several periodicals, on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis. These publications and research datasets are widely used by SSA users, Congress, the White House, state and local governments, multiple federal agencies, public and private researchers and think tanks, academia, advocacy groups, the media (including the SSA press office), and the public.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for taking complex, technical information and translating it into plain language.
  • Must work closely with experienced data scientists, statisticians, and economists to interpret research data, charts, graphs, and more to ensure production of technical documentation complies with customer requirements.
  • Research existing data to maximize use of previously developed text and/or illustrations.
  • Communicates status of work and any requirements for additional information to management.
  • Completes assigned tasks according to established deadlines, customer specifications, and company policies/procedures.
  • Reviews project requirements to comply with customer specifications and agreements.
  • Maintain a comprehensive list of acronyms that is utilized in documentation.
  • Works closely with ITC manager on project status, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Assists with the creation of sprint cycles and overall project plan.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • BS/BA and 8+ years of experience required.
  • Must have prior research, statistics, or economist writing experience.
  • Excellent written skills to include translating highly technical information into plain language for wide-spread consumption.
  • Excellent communication skills to include, but not limited to, active listening, oral communications, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Ability to create tables, charts, graphs, illustrations, etc. to support the written content in the white papers.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Skilled at applying branding and required formatting for final publications.
  • Adept at prioritization and multi-tasking with strong attention to detail.
  • Must have prior experience with work estimations and project planning.

Preferred Skills

  • PMP certification.
  • Moderate to advanced experience in Microsoft Project.
  • Moderate to advanced experience in Planner.
  • Familiarity with establishing Kanban boards.
  • Federal government experience.
