Duties and Responsibilities

The Student Success Specialist will collaborate across departments to plan and execute first-year and

transfer programming. The programming will deliver high-impact wrap-around support services and

strategies for new students. The Specialist will use a data-informed approach to ensure that services

positively affect persistence, retention, holistic development, and future readiness. The Specialist will

address key goals in the first year including, developing an academic and career plan, selecting a major,

developing study skills, getting connected to organized communities on campus, and utilizing technology

to access supports and services seamlessly.

  • Develop and coordinate of new student programming for first-year and transfer students to foster belonging and engagement. (e.g., facilitating workshops, FYE monthly seminars, trainings, specific cohorts, etc.)
  • Collaborate with student support offices and departments across campus (Faculty Advisors, Learning Support Services, University Counseling Center, Office of Disability Services, Office of International Affairs, etc.) to promote holistic support for students focusing on first year student success.
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, development, and evaluation of the student leader teams assisting in helping provide support services for new students.
  • Support in the development of seamless support services and resources focused on the First Year Experience for students and faculty.
  • Evaluation of first year programming for the university using key performance measures.
  • Oversee the planning of new student onboarding programs, advising, and orientation for new students (e.g., advising undecided/exploring students)
  • Teaching seminars that focus on First-Year Experience topics and resources to ensure success in navigating college.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Director of First-Year Experience pertaining to student retention and persistence towards graduation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse and team-oriented work environment.
  • Competency in working with diversity along multiple dimensions: first-generation. college students, race, ethnicity, immigration status, gender, sexuality, and ability status.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to reach multiple audiences, i.e., administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • Strong problem solving, time, and project management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize projects and tasks and assess and deploy resources.
  • Experience with assessment and best practices in student development/student affairs.
  • Prior experience working and collaborating with student leaders/ stakeholders.
  • Possess a clear understanding and personal commitment to North Park Universitys mission of
  • Christian higher education.
  • Have good attention to detail and excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Be customer friendly and hospitable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc

Desired:

  • Masters Degree in higher education or related field
  • Ability to work independently and with others, and to be proactive
  • Have experience with Enterprise Systems
  • Comfortable with using new technology
