JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position serves as Museum Division Director of the Education Division of the Louisiana State Museum's statewide system. The Education Division is responsible for all public programming., including both K-12 school-oriented and adult programming, at the Louisiana State Museum. This position is responsible for and supervises all museum public programs.

75% - Coordinates and supervises all aspects of management of public programs, under the direction of the Curatorial Services Director. This includes the development and implementation of K-12 programming such as school field trips, school site visits, virtual field trips, at-home lesson plans, and other programs, as well as adult and non-school orientated programming such as guest lectures and presentations, virtual presentations, tours, workshops, family days, sensory and disability-friendly programs, and others in conjunction with museum exhibits, museum collections, or other museum-related content and in coordination with museum curatorial staff. Coordinates with Event Coordinator and LSM Maintenance department to organize all on-site public programs; works with maintenance department to configure improvements to museum programming spaces. Oversees and manages all Education division budgets, makes recommendations for purchases, and submits budget items for approval and payment requests; ensures educational partners are paid in a timely manner. Works with Collections and Exhibits curators to improve educational aspects of exhibits, oversees and recommends Education division exhibit proposals, oversees the development of educational programming as part of the exhibit planning process. Works with Public Relations staff to plan and promote all museum public programs; writes press releases and develops social media content; manages programming calendar and communicates calendar updates for the museum website to the web manager.
The Museum Division Director of the Education division directly supervises all division staff including the Education Curator and contract staff including the Education Assistant and all teacher/artist-in-residence staff. Oversees the teacher/artist-in-residence program and the Friends of the Cabildo docent program; works closely as a collaborative partner with the Friends of the Cabildo to manage docents and volunteers.

20% - Administers the routine and special activities of the division by directing the flow of information and task assignments from the Curatorial Services Director or higher leadership; reporting information from the division for LSM board reports and other activity reports from the division; attends staff meetings; monitors division staff and contractor work loads.

5% - Interprets and advises on policies and procedures of the management of museum public programs and makes recommendations to the Curatorial Services Director or higher museum leadership. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1.) Division Director Option:
A baccalaureate degree in American history, American studies, anthropology, archaeology, art history, cultural geography, history, historical geography, museum science, museology, or fine arts, plus four years of professional level curatorial experience.

2.) Regional Director and Branch option:
A baccalaureate degree plus four years of professional level museum experience.

SUBSTITUTIONS:
Division Director and Regional Director and Branch options:

A master's degree in the above qualifying fields will substitute for one year of the required experience.

A Ph.D. in any qualifying field will substitute for two years of the required experience.

NOTE:
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

DIVISION DIRECTOR POSITIONS:
Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the work activities of a major division for the State Museum.

their region by inspections, review of financial and administrative reports and budget requests, conferences, training sessions, and coordination of major construction,
repairs or expenditures, and interpretive programming.

Develops, prepares and monitors budget recommendations for personnel services, equipment and materials; prepares purchase requests and makes needed purchases;
maintains fiscal records; prepares reports, correspondence and plans; recommends policies and procedures for regional operations.

Meets with civic and governmental groups to promote region and site use by public relations.

Coordinates public relations by meeting with civil foundations and governmental groups to promote region and site.
