  • The Scooter Coach position is an integral part of the camper's experience, providing a dynamic platform that is unmatched. You will execute and support all aspects of the program, including overall curriculum and appropriate use of facilities. The goal is to ensure a high level of training and progression, making sure campers are engaged and participating in a responsible manner.

    The Scooter Zone Coach position will be responsible for the safety, vibe, and cleanliness of the Action Sports facilities around camp. Zone Coaches need to make sure campers are acting responsibly and respectfully to others and using the facility in a safe manner. They will be responsible for upholding energy within the park and for the cleanliness of the facility.

    The Scooter Counselor will be in collaboration with coaching and is responsible for the safety, health, and well-being of all campers within assigned cabin throughout the day and from the time they return to the cabin for the evening to when campers are released to instruction the following morning. They will be responsible for assisting campers with any needs or challenges that arise during the week, referring to department leads as needed. This role provides you with the ability to connect with the campers outside of the park setting, and enhance the overall experience.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work a maximum of 40 hours, including coaching, zone coaching, counseling and recreation activities as assigned
  • Attend and participate in staff training, meetings and touch bases to acquire knowledge for behavior management techniques, emergency evacuation procedures, etc.
  • Ensure campers are acting responsibly, respectfully and following all camp standards
Coaching
  • Responsible for leading a group of 7-10 campers daily through 2 instruction sessions for 3.5 hours daily
  • Create and implement a lesson plan utilizing the Woodward Intuitive Progression System and Progression Tools to ensure campers are learning new skills and meeting goals
  • Assist with Scooter Program events and clinics
  • Evaluate camper skill levels and discuss progression comparisons while providing feedback for ongoing skill development
Zone Coaching
  • Safety - Make sure everyone is using the facility in a safe manner, and following proper skatepark etiquette
  • Energy - Engaged, playing music, creating games, developing challenges and assisting campers with skill development
  • Cleanliness - Sweeping, clearing facility of all debris and hazards.
  • Maintenance - Inspecting all areas each shift for any ramps or obstacles that need repair.
  • Communicate with medical team effectively in event of an injury
Counseling
  • Assist campers in daily routine including chores, overall cabin/surrounding area cleanliness, travelling to program activities and meals
  • Connection & Community
  • - Create a cohesive and positive cabin experience amongst all campers in the cabin
  • Lead/Assist with Recreation Activities as scheduled
  • Counseling to include taking attendance with required night supervisor sign-off and enforcement of lights out
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL SKILLS:
  • Must have 1+ years of experience working with kids and/or teens
  • Experience working in a camp environment is preferred
  • High school degree or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in action sports coaching preferred
  • Health and Safety Certifications
BASIC SCHEDULE/REQUIREMENTS:
  • As a requirement of this position, pre-hire criminal history clearances are collected from the Pennsylvania State Police (PATCH) system, child abuse clearances are obtained through the Department of Public Welfare, and federal history is taken through FBI fingerprint screening.
  • Physical Capabilities: bend, twist, push, pull, stand, lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable working in an outdoor and indoor all-season environment.
  • Camp Attendance Requirements:
    • Summer Camp Season (June 9th - August 24th)
    • Preferred minimum 4 -week commitment within Summer camp season.
