Position End Date (if temporary) To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by 11:59pm (MT) on 01/05/2024 Description of Work Unit The Department of Soil and Crop Sciences is focused on education, research, and outreach to solve the worlds most pressing food production issues and crucial matters about Earth, its ecosystems, and their services. Our faculty and staff apply research-based solutions to benefit Colorado and the world. We offer academic programs to prepare students to address national and global crop production, sustainability, and environmental quality challenges such as waste management, water quality, and reclamation of drastically disturbed lands. There are numerous opportunities for students to be involved in cutting edge research related to global food production and ecosystem function and protection.
The Soil Carbon Solutions Center (SCSC) was formed in 2021 to support breakthrough research and development of new technologies for promoting soil carbon sequestration and improving overall soil health in agricultural systems. The SCSCs goals include providing end-to-end discovery and implementation of soil-based solutions, including the development of new soil CO2 removal technologies, accurate low-cost quantification systems, market analysis and policy design, education, extension and farmer training to spur adoption of best carbon sequestering practices. We established the SCSC to leverage the unique expertise and leadership of researchers across and the consortium focuses on providing key agricultural and GHG emissions data and modeling services to stakeholders. Position Summary The Consortium Director will oversee the operations of the Soil Carbon Solution Center consortium. They will be responsible for membership outreach, fundraising, coordination of activities with the Soil Carbon Solutions Center and associated research. The Consortium Director will: - Work with industry, research, government, and nonprofits
- Create Communities of Practice, education
- Develop trainings around consortium offerings
- Supervise consortium staff, including data scientists, software engineers, and student/non-student hourlies
This position is expected to work in-person, with the ability to have a flexible schedule. Required Job Qualifications - Masters degree + 5 years of experience in a relevant field, such as environmental science, soil sciences, ecology, agronomy, environmental engineering or related fields; or PhD + 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects, partnerships, or programs, including public-private research partnerships.
- Demonstrated understanding of ecosystem models and data management platforms.
- The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications Project and Program Management: - Proven leadership experience and project management skills, including planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Experience in managing budgets, allocating resources, and ensuring project deliverables are met.
Communication Skills: - Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex concepts to various audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in grant writing and proposal development to secure funding for the consortiums initiatives and projects
Leadership and Team Management: - Effective leadership skills to inspire and motivate team members toward achieving common objectives.
- Creative thinking and innovation to address challenges and identify opportunities for growth and impact.
- Strong problem-solving skills to navigate complex issues and conflicts.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity and inclusion principles
Technology Proficiency: - Knowledge of or direct experience with biogeochemical models, data management systems, and technology platforms for collaboration, data sharing, and reporting.
- Prior experience in the fields of sustainability, GHG emissions, and/or agriculture

- Interact with stakeholders, research scientists and consortium staff.
