Job Description:

Specialist, Cell and Gene Therapy Commercial Supply Chain Commercial Manufacturing & Supply Chain, Vertex Pharmaceuticals (Boston)

The Specialist of Cell and Gene Therapy Commercial Supply Chain will be responsible for the raw material planning strategy in support of the Cell and Gene Therapy Supply Chain. The Specialist will apply proficiency in raw material planning to execute upon supply and inventory plans. The Specialist will also support development of new internal compliance and business processes in support of commercialization. The Specialist will work closely with key internal and external stakeholders including Finance, Regulatory, Commercial, Logistics, QA, MSAT, Manufacturing, Contract Manufacturers and Suppliers.


Hybrid Role - 3 days in office.

6 month contract to start with possibility to extend or convert.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support raw material planning and ordering in CGT in support of drug product manufacturing
  • Supports raw material planning analysis to achieve and maintain target inventory levels while minimizing scrap
  • Track and maintain metrics and dashboards summarizing performance and adherence to goals
  • Assists with accountability and destruction of rejected, returned or unusable materials
  • Coordinates with external contract manufacturing partners for the timely collection and review of inventory reports for Vertex materials. Prepares Vertex inventory summaries as required
  • Supports generation and maintenance of supplier forecasts and coordinates on time delivery per contract guidelines.
  • Participate in regular meetings with external contract manufacturers and internal stakeholders to calibrate needs, requirements and anticipate changes in demands and process
  • Works with senior Supply Chain and Quality staff to conduct transactions for material creation, movement and use in Vertexs material management system
  • Supports quality investigations and change controls in the Quality management system
  • Support senior supply chain staff on various project charters such as raw material planning (including risk assessments and mitigation plans), and business continuity initiatives
  • Support implementing new processes and capabilities needed to support Cell and Gene Therapy programs by drafting and/or revising planning SOPs
  • Assists senior Supply Chain and Finance staff with tracking supply chain activities and contracts
  • Represents supply chain on assigned working teams and executes supply chain production activities independently
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Minimal Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or business discipline preferred, or equivalent years of relevant experience
  • Typically requires 4 years of relevant work experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to analyze straightforward problems and develop possible solutions using technical experience and judgment; may escalate unusual or complex problems
  • Ability to effectively balance customer expectations with internal/team expectations
  • Ability to apply conceptual knowledge of supply chain methods/theories while acquiring deeper knowledge of applicable regulations (e.g., GMP. GCP, Part 11)
  • Works effectively across departments and levels, building and maintaining productive relationships
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and manage own workload
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to exchange relevant, and at times complex, information cross-functionally and ensuring understanding
  • Strong prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry
Pay Range:
$38 - $42/HR
