Job Summary


As a WAF Application Security Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and participating in the architecture, design and development of web application security services. The position will be focused on providing technical lead activities around Web Application Firewall (WAF) Services for MNIT applications. The incumbent will be considered an expert and have strong technical expertise in WAF Services to best support security requirements and protections of MNIT managed internet facing applications. In addition, the position will work closely with other MNIT team and will help direct WAF related work efforts to other TVMU security engineers.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.
  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:

Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of IT related experience in an information security role that includes:

  • In-depth knowledge, skills and experience working with Web Application Firewall (WAF) systems with emphasis on Radware and Azure web application firewall technologies.
  • Experience with application security frameworks and guides, such as OWASP
  • Experience, knowledge and skills around web application security vulnerabilities, exploits and attacks, and remediation strategies.
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties
  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving

A masters degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR a related bachelors degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR a related associates degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth, expert level experience in the configuration, support, and effective tuning of WAF systems.
  • In-depth experience with one or more of the following products: Radware, F5, AWS and Azure
  • In-depth experience in conducting application security assessment and / or penetration testing. Experience must include strong understanding and risk assessment web application related flaws and weaknesses and strong understanding effective mitigation strategies.
  • Experience with developing web applications using on or more of the following technologies: Java, J2EE, .NET, JavaScript, HTML,CSS, XML, XSLT, Python, PowerShell, and SQL.
  • Experience with Azure, Azure DevOps, GitHub.
  • Leadership experience, including providing direction and mentoring staff.
