Job Description


This position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of developing and maintaining a successful program. The specific tasks are varied tasks and listed below. Each requires a high level of autonomy over specific program areas and is essential to the success of the team.

All coaches have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, Big Sky Conference and NAU with complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations as mandated by NCAA.

Bylaw 10.1. Satisfactory rules knowledge and rules compliance are conditions of employment. This position, in particular, will fully participate and cooperate in compliance relatedactivities, procedures and evaluation. Coaches are held to strict NCAA guidelines regarding all of the following:

  • Athletic Equipment and Apparel
  • Coaching Staff Limits and Contracts
  • Complimentary Admissions
  • Employment of Student Athletes
  • Financial Aid
  • Governance
  • Institutional Camps and Clinics
  • Institutional Certification of Compliance
  • Playing and Practice Seasons
  • Recruiting
  • Representatives of the University's Athletic Interests
  • Rules Education

Database, Training and Preparation - 40%

  • Coordinate statistical database and video analysis.
  • Assist with skill and system training as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Assist with match preparation/ scouting.

Program Planning - 30%

  • Coordinate camps Work with Camp director of marketing, budgeting, employment, planning.
  • Coordinate academic mentoring academic progress, eligibility, freshman transition.
  • Coordinate team travel including planning, purchasing, and managing itineraries.
  • Assist with team planning and goal development.
  • Assist with recruiting Assist in identifying, evaluating, and recruiting prospective student athletes, Coordinate campus visits.
  • Assist with prospect communication strategies.
  • Assist with program promotion/ coordinating with current and potential benefactors/alumni.

Recruiting and Coordinating - 20%

  • Assist with recruiting Assist in identifying, evaluating, and recruiting prospective student athletes, Coordinate campus visits.

NCAA Knowledge and University Representation - 5%

  • Assist in developing and maintaining a successful image and profile for the Northern Arizona Women's Volleyball program.
  • A working knowledge of university, Big Sky Conference, and NCAA rules is required, and the successful candidate will need to pass the NCAA recruiting test.

Other - 5%

  • Secondary responsibilities include any other duties assigned by the head coach.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree in relevant field. The successful applicant must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited university.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess current AZ Drivers License.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Must have a combined minimum of 5 years of volleyball coaching experience and/or Division 1 playing experience.
  • Recruiting experience.
  • Experience with training setters.
  • Experience with marketing/promotion.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer skills including use of computer databases and recruiting software, and exceptional written and oral communication skills.

  • Knowledge of collegiate athletics and student-athlete demands, including NCAA rules.

Driving Requirement


Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Drivers license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. Background Information


This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary


Anticipated salary range is $37,584 - $45,023. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.


FLSA Status


This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
