The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Emergency Services and Communications has a part time vacancy for Maintenance Mechanic II. This is a part time position and cannot exceed 29.5 hours a week.

SCOPE OF WORK: To perform a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work and to maintain the operating condition of equipment and systems within the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) facility operated by the Division of Emergency Services and Communications located in Laconia, with occasional coverage at the Concord location. These facilities operate on a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year basis.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Operates, cleans, adjusts and performs skilled maintenance on machinery, equipment and tools such as snowplow, snow blower, sander, communications mast winches, batteries, and generators to ensure continuity of operations and to avoid premature replacement of equipment.

Maintains and deploys emergency assets throughout the state including Communications Incident Command Vehicles and variable message boards. Programs variable message boards prior to deployment and initializes generator upon deployment. Raises and lowers communications masts on command vehicles. Maintains and utilizes thorough knowledge of equipment in order to instruct local authorities on proper use.

Performs visual inspections of all vehicles and trailers, identifies any mechanical issues, and ensures safety-related and operational features (tires, lights, etc.) are functioning properly in all vehicles. Verifies and maintains records of gas, oil, and water levels on vehicles to ensure their continued maintenance and optimal operation. Coordinates and schedules necessary repairs with Department of Safety garage, Radio Communications Maintenance staff (for emergency lights and radio equipment) or outside vendors.

Exercises partial supervision over vendors performing related maintenance work such as custodial, electrical, snowplowing, UPS battery system, carpet replacement and cubicle reconfiguration in both the Concord and Laconia facilities. Schedules maintenance projects and reviews, approves or rejects completed work as needed.

Orders maintenance supplies including painting and custodial materials and ensures that all supplies needed are available and stocked frequently for all three shifts within both facilities. Performs custodial duties at Laconia facility if contracted vendor is not available (due to weather concerns, etc.). Paints interior surfaces in both Concord and Laconia facilities as needed.

Drives vehicles to move equipment and emergency assets as needed between Concord and Laconia facilities and throughout the state, and to make deliveries and pick-ups from multiple state sites and suppliers, to include the DOS garage and warehouse.

Maintains 24-hour, seven-day availability for snow removal and treatment of walkways and employee entrances to ensure that employees on all three shifts have safe access to and from the facilities.

Performs maintenance of HVAC system in the absence of the supervisor using computer monitoring equipment to identify and diagnose problems. Executes repairs such as changing belts and filters. Performs monthly electric meter readings and checks of AED equipment.

Provides back-up coverage for other building maintenance staff including the Divisions Maintenance Technician and Administrative Services Maintenance Technician.

Performs janitorial services such a vacuuming, sweeping, basic cleaning of the facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.5 Years of additional relevant experience = Associate's Degree

3 Years of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's Degree

4.5 Years additional relevant experience = Master's Degree

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential and completion of an apprenticeship in one of the skilled trades as required in the performance of job accountabilities.

Experience: Two years of experience in general maintenance and repair work associated with one or more of the following areas: carpentry, electricity, painting, plumbing, masonry, sheet metal work, welding, auto repair or related trade experience. Preference may be given to applicants with experience in the trade area for which the agency is recruiting. Two additional years of approved work experience may be substituted for the required apprenticeship in one of the skilled trades.

License/Certification: Must possess a valid drivers license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.
