Our Licensing Endorsements and Traffic Safety unit (LETS) is recruiting for a dynamic Licensing Service Representative to join their Driver Training School team!

The Department of Licensing is a team of nearly 1400 people whose work ultimately makes a positive impact on public safety. We are the face of state government, as we serve nearly every Washington resident, providing almost 6 million driver licenses and identification cards, registering over 7 million vehicles and vessels, and licensing over a quarter million professionals and businesses. We also partner with law enforcement, and many agencies and stakeholders who impact public safety.

Duties

As a Licensing Services Representative supporting the audit and investigations team your attention to detail will be a critical part of this position. You will be the point of contact for the Driver Training School (DTS) examiner certifications. Much of your day to day will include conducting check rides of drive testing to ensure consistency with Licensing Service Offices and as required by the Department of Licensing (DOL) and by statute. As a Licensing Service Representative, you will have a key role in protecting public safety, regulatory compliance, providing courteous customer service, being efficient, cost effective, and informing customers of our agency services and responsibilities.
Some things you will do:
  • Approve and certify exam routes to ensure they meet required criteria.
  • Evaluate Driver Training School (DTS) examiners to ensure they are delivering skills tests fairly and in a manner consistent.
  • Facilitate and conduct DTS Examiner trainings/master course statewide, as needed, ensuring Examiner compliance with DOL.
  • Monitor and maintain the Examiner email inbox to provide technical assistance, resolve customer inquiries.
Qualifications

What you will bring:
  • Three (3) years of customer service experience providing services or assistance to clients and/customers regarding inquiries, complaints, or problems.
Or
  • Three (3) years of technical experience in a regulatory or licensing program environment, interpreting and applying laws, rules, and regulations.
And
  • Two (2) years of experience analyzing and interpreting RCWs, WACs, state and federal laws, rules, regulations, statutes, and policies and procedures and applying them in relevant work experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience using Microsoft Suite office products including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • One (1) year of experience identifying, collecting, organizing, and documenting data and information for report writing, preparing comprehensive and detailed reports.
What may set you apart:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or other related fields and one year of experience in auditing, management, project management, and/or investigations.
  • Experience conducting driver license skills test examinations.
  • Experience training or evaluating others to conduct driver license skills test examinations.
  • Certification as a Driver Training School Master Examiner (if do not have, to be completed within 6 months of employment)
  • Experience developing and/or delivering training programs or presentations or assisting with training new or less experienced staff.
  • Experience conducting verbal or written presentations to industry groups, stakeholders, licensees, staff, or other customers, to include organization of materials.
  • Experience working in DRIVES/POLARIS, user interfaces, web-based applications, and retrieving and/or updating data from unique department database systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the LETS program laws, rules, and procedures.
  • Experience building positive working relationships and establishing trust and credibility with stakeholder groups.
  • Completion of a recognized investigator or regulatory auditor training.
  • Experience or formalized training performing audits, inspections, or investigations of business and practices.
Additional Requirements of Employment:
  • Valid WA Driver's License and 5 yrs. of licensed driving experience.
  • Prior to a new hire, a driver's abstract and a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • Ability to prove US Citizenship and pass fingerprint based federal background check to include malfeasance check on employee for the past 5 years. background check and malfeasance reference check will be conducted every 5 years.
  • In addition, an acceptable fingerprint based criminal history background check is also required for this position, as a condition of employment. Fingerprints will be used to check the criminal history records of the FBI. You will have the capability to review and challenge any record through the FBI.
