Job Summary


Make a difference in the lives of LGBTQIA2S+ Minnesotans! The Council on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Two-Spirit plus (LGBTQIA2S+) Minnesotans is a state agency that advises the governor, legislature, agency leaders and other stakeholders on matters of interest to Minnesotans in the LGBTQIA2S+ community.

The Executive Director (Director) will have the unique and exciting role of standing up this new state agency and will serve as the principal administrator and executive for the Council. The Director will be responsible for creating and implementing agency procedures and hiring staff as well as convening the Councils board to identify the priorities of the Council. The Director implements Council decisions and strategic plans, and advocates and advances legislative items and public policies recommended by the Council. The Director carries out all duties described in Minnesota Statutes 15.0147.

The Executive Director serves in the unclassified service and is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Legislative Coordinating Commission.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • The successful candidate should have at least five years of professional and progressive leadership experience sufficient to lead a small agency.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the LGBTQIA2S+ community in Minnesota.
  • Knowledge and experience with project management and/or strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of the legislative process.
  • Experience advocating for policy changes or working through issues of concern for the Minnesotans in the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
  • Ability to communicate and present clearly and effectively across diverse groups of community stakeholders, government entities, nonprofit agencies, media and the business community.
  • Human relation skills to be able to build relationships, influence outcomes, and work effectively with and across the LGBTQIA2S+ community, policymakers, government officials, agency leaders and a variety of local and national forums.
  • Ability to travel intrastate and interstate as required by duties.

A person who is currently a member of the Council must resign from the Council before submitting an application or the application will not be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to prepare a variety of reports and press releases.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota statutes, policies and rules.
  • Experience with budget development and administration.
  • Capability to work at a high level of performance in diverse settings.
