$25.56 - $40.90 Hourly $53,165 - $85,064 Annually This position is a Pay Band 70 Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date. Position will apprehend absconders throughout the State of New Mexico that flee (abscond) from Probation and/or Parole supervision. - Works with other Probation/Parole Officers and law enforcement Officers to apprehend Absconders throughout New Mexico
- Utilizes computer databases, internet search engines, social media, interviews, informants, etc. to develop intelligence on the whereabouts of Absconders
- Networks with city, county, state, and federal law enforcement officers to maximize the likelihood of Absconder apprehensions
- Public Safety
- New Mexico Correction Department (NMCD)
- Agencies of the State of New Mexico
Experience in the following: - Certified Probation/Parole Officer with the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD)
- Firearms, Taser, and Defensive Tactics certified with the NMCD
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in sociology, psychology, corrections, guidance and counseling, social work, police science, or criminal justice
- Probation/Parole Officer
- Managing a caseload, writing reports, and conducting fugitive investigations
Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice or related field as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification and two (2) years of experience as a Probation and Parole Officer I, commissioned or non-commissioned law enforcement officer, to include behavioral case management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and experience in behavioral case management, commissioned or non-commissioned law enforcement, military law enforcement or as a Probation & Parole Officer totaling four (4) years, OR two (2) years as an Adult Correctional Officer including two (2) years in behavioral case management, will substitute for the required education. These combinations of education and experience qualify you for the position: Education Experience Education Experience 1 High School Diploma or Equivalent AND 4 years of experience OR High School Diploma or Equivalent AND 4 years of experience 2 Associate's degree in the field(s) specified in the minimum qualification AND 2 years of experience Associate's degree or higher in any field AND 4 years of experience 3 Bachelor's degree or higher in the field(s) specified in the minimum qualification AND 0 years of experience - Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.
- If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of Federal and State law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Successful completion of a series of Defensive Tactics and Restraint Courses to include exposure to Mace/OC Spray within one (1) year from date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of First Aid and CPR Courses within the one (1) year of date from hire as a condition of continued employment is required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must be a U.S. Citizen, reached the age of 18 years old, and must not have been convicted of a felony. Must have home phone. Willing to accept travel/geographic assignment changes. May be required to carry a firearm, work odd hours and visit offenders' home. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random drug tests. Employment is conditional pending results of pre-employment drug test. Statutory Requirements: Assignment as a Probation Parole Officer at NMCD must adhere to the following: - At the time of their appointment, be citizens of the United States.
- At the time of their appointment, have reached the age of majority.
- Be of good moral character and not have been convicted of a felony or any crime of moral turpitude in the courts of this or any other state or in the federal courts.
- Subject to a drug test as a condition of employment and on-going random drug testing as a condition of assignment to a safety sensitive position.
- Successful completion of the New Mexico Department Of Corrections Basic Probation and Parole Officers Certification Training within twelve months of hire and annual re-certification.
- Maintenance of skills in self-defense, handcuffing, baton, and chemical agents and annual re-certification.
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates.
