Job Description

Mission Technologies, a division of HII has a need for an SCMS Liaison Mechanical Engineer who will provide multi-platform sustainment engineering Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) for the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC), 848 Supply Chain Management Group (SCMG), 423 Supply Chain Management Squadron (SCMS).

This support for commodity items managed by the 848 SCMG and repaired by OO-ALC, issues affecting structures, avionics, accessories, ground support includes, but is not limited to:
  • Analyzing design data
  • Assisting in the resolution of Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS)
  • Developing fabrication/repair procedures
  • Developing fabrication/repair fixtures and tooling
  • Evaluating damage
  • Evaluating repairs
  • System integration
  • Developing technical order source data



Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Perform complex engineering work related to investigating issues prohibiting successful repair of assigned items and developing repairs, suggesting improvements, tooling required for repair, and Technical Order (TO) procedures/processes.
  • View, evaluate, and assist with specified operational and functional situations with test stands, fixtures, and tooling; assist with engineering determinations for those, as well as with acquisition of needed items for the production facilities.
  • Assist with viewing overhaul, repair, and testing processes and procedures of various assets.
  • Will work directly with 423rd SCMS technical personnel and project managers in the planning and execution of technical activities on items undergoing repair or overhaul at OO-ALC.
  • Employ existing guidelines and instructions, guidance from 423rd SCMS engineers, experience, and independent judgment to plan and accomplish task objectives.


Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
  • Knowledge and experience with manufacturing, remanufacturing, or new manufacturing operations, evaluating damage, evaluating repairs, and system integration, including evaluation, and repair procedure development.
  • Experience with Technical Order (TO) processes and reviews to include developing technical order source data.
  • Knowledge and experience with Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) processes and procedures, including fluorescent penetrant, and florescent magnetic particle processes.
  • Able to develop repair procedures, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Strong oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required for daily interaction with multiple Government employees.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite programs, AutoCad, and Solid Works or an equivalent 3D modeling program. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience is preferred.
  • Clearance: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.



Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with special processes such as Media Blasting, Lapping, Cold Spray, Shot Peening, Hard Chrome replacement coatings, and Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Electrical test stands.
  • Experience with the special processes of heat treating, plating, processes and procedures, aerospace finishing, organic coating removal processes and welding.
  • Knowledge and experience with developing fabrication procedures, fixtures, and tooling.
