Program Description

The Museum of Science Facilities Department manages the daily and long range operations of the Museum's Facilities to provide a safe, clean, and pleasant work environment on an economical and timely basis. Operations include electrical and mechanical building systems, and building/structure components. Responsible for overseeing all construction and renovations, permits, licenses, and compliance with governmental regulatory requirements pertaining to the operation of the building.

Position Summary

The Intern will assist the Facilities Team with the updating of the Museum of Science's drawing database using Autocad & perform visual inspections and detailed audits of the Physical Plant operating systems and general conditions, including HVAC systems, plumbing and electrical services in order to document existing equipment and conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Complete building condition assessments of the Physical Plant operating systems and general conditions, including HVAC systems, plumbing and electrical services in order to document existing equipment and conditions.
  • Update the Museum of Science drawing database utilizing Autocad.
  • Develop a database of the Physical Plant condition assessment based upon the verified conditions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of AUTOCAD
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint
  • Ability to work well with others and independently

SPECIAL SKILLS (preferred But Not Required)

  • Degree in Facilities Management, Architecture, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering OR work towards completion of degree

LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: Winter-Spring term (January - May)

WORK SCHEDULE: 20 Hours / week Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM

LOCATION: In-person

PAY RATE: $15 for undergraduates, $15.25 for individuals with a higher education degree
