Position Summary

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago is offering a full-time post-doctoral fellowship position for the 2024-2025 academic year. SAIC is one of the largest accredited independent schools of art and design in the country. Providing degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels, SAIC has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top graduate art programs in the nation, and also serves as a national resource for issues related to the position and importance of the arts in society.

The mission of the Counseling Service at SAIC is to assist students in meeting their emotional, psychological, and mental health needs and to contribute to a campus environment that facilitates the healthy growth and development of students. The Counseling Service is staffed by doctoral-level psychologists.

The post-doctoral fellows will gain experience in the primary functions of a college or university mental health professional. Primary responsibilities include serving as staff psychotherapist for undergraduate and graduate students, offering assessments, crisis intervention, brief psychotherapy, and referral linkage to outside mental health providers. Responsibilities include supervision of graduate student externs, provision of outreach programs or workshops to students and staff on topics of interest, and consultation with faculty, staff and the larger SAIC community. Supervision, mentoring, and professional development experiences for this position will be provided by senior staff, and hours will qualify toward obtaining licensure as a clinical psychologist in Illinois. This is a 12-month position, offering a salary of $47,000 and benefits.

Qualifications

Eligible candidates must have a PhD or PsyD from an accredited (APA) program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. A completed psychology internship is required. Must have strong clinical skills in treatment, assessment and crisis intervention. College or university counseling center experience and an understanding of outreach and consultation activities is preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and high level of attention to detail are essential. This position starts August 15th, 2024 and ends August 14th, 2025.
