Our focused Systems Engineering team seek a talented Middleware Engineer to join us.

As a mainly project-focused team, you will help contribute to the design of and implementation of solutions for applications and related infrastructure.

We will give you the responsibility for the engineering and support aspects of application middleware components, overseeing the technical design, development and maintenance of application infrastructure components as well as maintaining engineering design standards and a stable application infrastructure environment.

You will participate in and contribute to an exciting AWS Cloud Acceleration Programme, as MMC continues in the next phases of our cloud migration journey.

Working collaboratively with a variety of technical teams, you will also be involved with Incident and Problem Management, Change Management, Disaster Recovery planning and implementation, the provisioning of infrastructure and related services as well as OS and application-specific patching.

We will look for you to identify opportunities for systems and tools enhancements, middleware enhancements, performance tuning, server hardening, etc., via automation to aid operational efficiencies.

Our team provide global, regional, and local support of a broad spectrum of applications and supporting systems. Organized changes & Severity 1 production issue requirements mean that there may be occasional weekend work & extended days.

What you need to have:

Proven working experience of web-based technologies (IIS, Tomcat, HTTP Web Servers or similar on Windows (2016/2019/2022) and/or Linux (RH7.x, 8.x) host systems.
Working experience supporting a multi-tiered web environment.
Experience in at least one end-user ticket management system (e.g. ServiceNow, etc.).
Good knowledge and understanding of network devices (such as F5 load balancers), of firewalls, of DNS, etc.
A good awareness of Microsoft .NET technology.


What makes you stand out:

AWS experience.
Strong knowledge of PowerShell scripting.
Demonstrable proficiency in patching procedures for OS, .NET, Java, etc.
Good knowledge of cloud computing technologies and environments as well as containerization (Docker)
Exposure to Microsoft SQL server 2016/2019 and Oracle RAC.


We will count on you to:

Be knowledgeable and confident when representing the aims and objectives of the team.
Provide technical guidance as an infrastructure partner on projects, helping to define the infrastructure needs, outlining the benefits and addressing any issues as they arise.
Participate in OS upgrades, application migrations and projects requiring infrastructure implementation and/or change.
Create and maintain technical documents such as knowledge base articles, infrastructure diagrams and FAQs.
Respond to changes in Information Security posture to ensure critical patches/changes are applied to the systems and infrastructure within area of control - carry out account revalidation exercises as required.
Assist with audit reviews, ensuring audit requirements and changes are dealt with, collaborating with various business and application teams as necessary.
Maintain audit compliance and reporting procedures.
Perform routine housekeeping and health check monitoring within both RedHat/Windows Servers and Application environments: (examples but not limited to) monitoring of application services, batch processes, backup jobs; archiving of logs, etc.
Provide day to day support for incidents and scheduled changes (as required).
Ensure SLAs related to application availability and stability are met.
Document root cause analysis and make suitable recommendations for corrective action plans as part of high severity incident reviews.
