The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office is recruiting for Paralegals to assist in the preparation of cases for both criminal and civil prosecutions. Paralegals work with attorneys to analyze cases and identify legal questions; research legal sources such as statutes, ordinances, regulations, and court decisions; review police reports; and review and draft criminal and civil pleadings, jury instructions, verdict forms and other litigation related documents. Paralegals will also work with other staff and agencies to obtain, organize, and provide discovery, review transcriptions, manage electronic and digital files and evidence, and compile and organize trial exhibits. This list will be used to fill vacancies in the District Attorney's Office only.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an in-depth background investigation, which includes a background check through the California Department of Justice, FBI Livescan/fingerprint check, credit check, and a review of California Court records.

Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance. Mileage reimbursement is available.

Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must possess one of the following options:

Option 1: Possess a certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association.

Option 2: Possess a certificate of completion of a paralegal program at, or a degree from, a post-secondary institution that requires the successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) units in law-related courses that has been accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization or approved by the Bureau of Private Post-secondary and Vocational Education.

Option 3: Possess a baccalaureate degree or an advanced degree in any subject from an accredited college or university, a minimum of one (1) year of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California for at least the preceding three years or who has practiced in the federal courts of this state for at least the preceding three (3) years, and a written declaration from this attorney stating the applicant is qualified to perform legal tasks.

Note: Candidates are required to provide copies of qualifying degree, list of coursework or transcripts, and/or attorney declaration or application may be disqualified.
Desired Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:

Knowledge of criminal or civil law and their applications.
Knowledge of trial and hearing procedures.
Experience working in a private law office, governmental law office or prosecutorial office.

Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe / Acrobat, Westlaw or Lexis Nexis.

Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are highly desired. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation.
