Summary / Role Purpose

The Application Engineer - Material Characterization/LS-DYNA (m/f/d) is responsible for leveraging engineering knowledge and relationships to help customers solve complex engineering problems using Ansys software, and to support regional accounts with significant impact on software revenue. The role encompasses all the technical support of our customers, the provision of technical credibility in supporting sales campaigns and the delivery of professional services in customer engagements. The specialization is within the Explicit Dynamics/LS-DYNA application group, with potentially cross-discipline solution aspects.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

Work closely with the immediate supervisor to enhance engineering knowledge, learn relevant Ansys products and gain experience in customer communication. Become an expert in one or more Ansys products
Apply engineering expertise and knowledge of structural mechanics to provide highest level technical support to customers and Channel Partners, ensuring high-quality, timely customer service that results in improved customer satisfaction and productivity
Proactively engage with selected accounts, and work with Ansys subject matter experts to provide comprehensive LS-DYNA solutions to customers problems. Contribute to technical activities throughout the sales opportunity lifecycle, interact with customers to understand their product design needs and engineering design workflows
Instruct introductory training classes and contribute to the delivery of professional services for projects which might include collaborative work with other field engineers in the same or different disciplines
Gather customer requirements to support the improvement of Ansys software and collaborate with the Ansys product development teams to translate customer requirements into new product capabilities. Test new releases on industrial problems
Participate in internal corporate initiatives to share knowledge and to create best practices, inside the discipline and cross-disciplines


Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

BS in Mathematics or Mechanical//Aerospace//CivilEngineering or related field
Required minimum years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: BS+0
Demonstrated use of relevant Ansys software or knowledge of other commercial CAE, CAD, EDA, PLM software packages
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work on multiple projects which are complex in nature
Demonstrated skills in writing and presenting in fluent English
Ability to travel up to 25% of time
Demonstrated knowledge in Computational Mechanics as demonstrated through classwork
Demonstrated skills in writing and presenting in fluent German
Interest in experimental testing for parameter characterization
Demonstrated skills of Python programming and knowledge of common libraries


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

MS in Mathematics or Mechanical//Aerospace//CivilEngineering or related field
Knowledge of software packages in the ecosystem of LS-DYNA
Experience in one application field of LS-DYNA, e.g. crash, occupant or process simulation, material characterization
Skills of object-oriented Python programming and knowledge of common libraries and VCS
Experience in material testing
Ability to identify technical problems, find effective solutions and implement them independently
Manual skills and the ability to work precisely and carefully
Preferred education and years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: MS+0
Ability to travel up to 50% of time
