The Office of Emergency Services (OES) has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Director of Emergency Management to lead a team of professionals committed to community disaster response. The Office of Emergency Services (OES) is responsible for countywide emergency planning, mitigation, response and recovery activities. OES works with all county departments and 24 cities, and many non-government organizations. In the event of an emergency, the OES manages the County's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and coordinates with the county's recovery effort from state and federal governments. One of the primary functions is to ensure that the EOC is in a constant state of readiness. For more information on OES, please visit our website.
This position is in the Unclassified Service; it does not attain regular status and serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
OUTSTANDING SALARY AND BENEFITS
The County offers a generous benefit package which includes a competitive salary commensurate with experience within the designated salary range of 55D: $103,064.00 - $148,054.40 Annually, plus 3% annual across the board salary increases on February 2025 and 2026. (Salary increases contingent upon Property Related Revenue and/or statewide Realignment Sales Tax Collections performance.)
Our generous alternative Modified Benefits Option provides a wage differential of 4% above the base salary with a complementing modified leaves package and benefits, including the use of increased pay rate to calculate County contributions to RMT, 401(k), and 457(b) plans, leaves cash outs, and retirement contribution rates.

Desired Qualifications:
This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills. Additionally, qualified candidates will possess the following:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Public or Business Administration, Police, Fire Safety, or closely related field.
Experience:
Four (4) years of full-time equivalent experience in emergency management, with responsibilities equivalent to an Emergency Services Officer in San Bernardino County OES, for a public or private enterprise (such as federal, state, county, or city emergency services, or medical or large employer with a dedicated emergency response department OR in program management, project management and/or grants administration. Additionally, qualifying experience should include two (2) years of full-scope supervisory experience.
Certification: Master Exercise Practitioner certification issued by DHS/FEMA is desirable.
A combination of relevant experience, education, and training that provides the necessary knowledge and skills may be considered.
