JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Design Engineer, under the leadership of the Sr. Manager/Manager, Engineering will support the process to provide business essential product engineering support in order to bring new products to market. The Sr. Design Engineer 1) will mentor other members of the Engineering group and aide in their development 2) be responsible for the successful development and launch of accessories according to ASG and Customer requirements and timelines 3) Own cradle to grave product development activities 4) Drive cross functional involvement during the product development process while maintaining adherence to product development process 5) Identify new innovative opportunities for ASG to bring competitive products to market either through. 6) Cross functional technical support through all phases of new product development (quality, manufacturing, procurement, and business development).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reliable, consistent, on-site attendance is a requirement. This position requires you to be punctual and dependable in order to meet the needs of the business; including attending and participating in meetings and presentations.
Maintain adherence to accessory launch timelines according to customer and business requirements
Establish vehicle applicability, conflicts, and requirements for accessories.
Lead cradle to grave development of accessories, including:
Concept and prototype development for business development initiatives
Risk and feasibility evaluations of new accessories
Coordinating resources for design review evaluations (CAD, drawings, parts, vehicles, stakeholder etc.)
Coordinating resources for any CAD requirements either as deliverables to customer or required internally. Including doing 3D and 2D CAD oneself.
Coordinating and supporting completion of APQP requirements. (PFMEA, DFMEA, production trials, design reviews, etc.)
Capturing stakeholder ideas and concerns and incorporate feedback during development process.
Providing input to decisions regarding whether or not to proceed with development.
Facilitate accessory supplier readiness.
Own model year carry-over validation activities ensuring vehicle and accessory applicability.
Facilitate accessory product quality problem solving efforts, including supplier corrective action.
Participate in review of warranty and other indicators of customer satisfaction.
Participate in the continual improvement of accessory development and launch processes.
Participate in supplier qualification, sourcing decisions, and supplier development.
Participate in determining the direction of the product portfolio and help optimize accessory product category
Responsibly receive, transmit, and handle consumer and customer data per applicable policies and procedures.
Review and follow data privacy practices, policies, and guidelines.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree from an accredited fouryear college or university (required) in Automotive, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering related field (strongly preferred); plus 5-8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires a minimum of one year experience as a Product Development Engineer at ASG.
Experience in advance product quality planning methodology (strongly preferred).
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Experience using 3D and 2D CAD systems, specifically PTC Creo
The ability to effectively communicate and interface with diverse audiences is critical. Some experience leading and coaching work team is necessary as is the ability to motivate and inspire others to take the initiative to make things better.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts consistent with skills utilized in Bachelor of Science curriculum
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is necessary.
Strong understanding of current industry-wide (OE and aftermarket) product expectations for accessory product categories as assigned.
Familiarity with common manufacturing processes for accessory product categories as assigned.
Demonstrate action planning and coordination skills.
Demonstrate excellent technical analysis and diagnostic skills.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to understand and apply ASG financial and productivity measures.

The associate may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in an office environment, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the associate may be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels. Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 10% of the time and on a domestic basis).
