Catholic Religious Education Coordinator
Place of Performance: Scott AFB, IL

General Description:
Catholic Religious Education Coordinator shall provide services as necessary to manage the Catholic Religious Education (RE) Program at Scott Air Force Base Chapel (SAFB). Coordinate any RE denomination requirements in accordance with the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS).

Specific Tasks:
Implement and coordinate a program for RE in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Catholic Priest, Air Force Chaplain Corps and AMS.
Serve as the resource advisor and coordinator of RE for the SAFB Chapels Catholic Community.
Complete AMS catechist application on the myAMS portal.
Timely order and distribute religious education curriculum and supplies in accordance with all Air Force regulations and instructions. For both APF and CTOF-funded activities and items develop annual requirements and budget.
Recruit religious education catechists and volunteers for AMSs RE program and coordinate parent-teacher meetings. Maintain catechist certification for teachers and a list of all volunteers, i.e. teachers, substitute teachers, administrative staff and support persons. Provide resources for the catechists in the program. Determine room assignments for RE classes, programs and events.
1. Ensure all catechists complete one required course for the basic catechist certification and maintain records of completion.
2. When applicable, ensure all catechists complete child and youth protection training, established by AMS and maintain those records.
3. Ensure all volunteers working with children have accomplished and receive a favorable background check in accordance with AF policies.
As necessary, conduct orientation and training programs for volunteers.
Ensure all volunteers working with children under the age of 18 years old have accomplished and receive a favorable background check in accordance with AF policies.
Make program recommendations to the Catholic Priest and Catholic Pastoral Council.
Develop and produce a yearly budget and ministry plan to the Catholic Priest or Chaplain Corps staff as required by local instruction.
Ensure facility requests for all RE programs occurring in Chaplain Corps facilities are filled out and submitted to the Chaplain Corps staff. Open and then properly secure the chapel and classrooms and ensure rooms are left in good order. Promote chapel security and cleanliness.
Attend pastoral council meetings, liturgy and contractor meetings and provide input as needed.
Seek continual process/program improvement by researching, identifying and staying current on evolving religious curriculum and teaching methodologies endorsed/directed by AMS.
Remain current in all catechist trends. As required by the Catholic Priest, attend continuing education events at your own expense (e.g. RE Congress conference, workshops, etc.).
Complete online training for current parish administration software. Maintain Student database using community administration software.
1. Coordinate family/student registration with Parish Life, Adult Education and Youth Ministry Coordinators and maintain/publish a calendar for the Parish.
Provide services in accordance with Catholic ecclesiastical, canonical, and liturgical norms and practices as prescribed by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Attend all Catholic Advisory Committee meetings, RE meetings, and other meetings as directed by the Catholic Priest.
Maintain records. This includes any daily AFCCARS data and a year-end Catholic Community report concerning the Catholic RE program (i.e. attendance figures, funds expenditures for the program, and materials ordered). This also includes supplying sacramental records to AMS.
Be accessible to SAFBs Catholic community. Answer calls related to the RE program and be able to speak generally about the base parish. Attend the weekly chapel staff meeting and Brief the Wing Chaplain or designee on the current status of the Catholic RE program. Function in a pluralistic environment and respect all other religions. Be familiar with and operate within the guidelines set forth in Operating Instructions and governing DoD or Air Force Instructions.
Coordinate sacramental preparation programs (i.e. Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation). Further coordinate liturgical format for sacraments through the Catholic Parish Life Coordinator BEFORE they are reproduced for parish use. Assist in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults as directed by the Catholic Priest.

Qualifications:
A bachelors degree is preferred (especially if in theology, religious Studies, or education).
Must be a practicing Roman Catholic, received the Sacrament of Confirmation, and is in good standing with the Church.
Must be an Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) certified catechist.
Currently hold, or be able to obtain within one-year of start date, the AMS advance catechist certificate.
Must have at least one-year experience coordinating religious education.
Understand and abide by the requirements and basic expectations of the AMS.
Must have experience with Catholic RE and the whole spectrum of Catholic Liturgical practices since the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council.
Conversational English required (ability to also speak Spanish preferred).
Basic computer proficiency required, including software familiarity with at least: Microsoft (MS) Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook.
