JOB SUMMARY: The Certified Nurse Assistant performs various patient care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The Nursing Assistant assists with patient cleaning, feeding, and preparation for treatment, takes and records vital signs, changes bed linen, prepares treatment trays and other supplies, and assists nursing service personnel with a variety of other patient care duties. Relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant training program. Valid, unexpired CNA license Current BLS/CPR certification One year of full-time experience in a hospital or nursing facility with satisfactory reference from previous employer; Hospital experience preferred. Strong written/verbal communication, organizational and customer service skills a must. Good physical stamina, mental health and personal hygiene habits. Strong attention to detail Understands healthcare philosophy of care and has empathy for the ill, along with their loved ones. Proven experience and ability to work in a team-based environment. Ability to read, follow directions, work independently, and operate mobile documentation device. Exceptional organizational skills, effective time management, ability to multi-task while still paying close attention to detail Ability to take initiative and to see projects through to completion. Ability to work collaboratively and compassionately with other staff in a fast growing, fast paced, and changing work environment. Team player who shares and participates in the vision and goals of ASLH. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Director of Nursing; Works closely with all staff RNs, APRNs, & LPNs receiving instructions/direction as necessary. Works closely with all CNA staff.
DUTIES/JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performing personal care needs after given a patient's assignment and attending to his/her requests promptly. If unable to perform a certain task, report to the nurse immediately. 2. Meeting safety needs of patient and using equipment safely and properly (side rails, O2 etc.) 3. Giving personal care including baths, oral hygiene, shampoos and changing bed linen as often as assigned. 4. All procedures performed by the CNA shall be in compliance with current standards of nursing practice. 5. Assisting in dressing and undressing patients as assigned. 6. Planning, preparing and assistance in feeding the patient nutritious meals as assigned. 7. Taking and recording oral, rectal and axillary temperatures, pulse, respiration and blood pressure when ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency. 8. Providing proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown of tissue over bony prominences. 9. Reporting on patient's condition and significant changes to the nurse. 10. Assisting in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the nurse or therapist. 11. Offering and assisting with bedpans/urinals. 12. Provide assistance with mobility, transferring, walking, range of motion and other simple procedures as an extensional therapy service as ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency. 13. Keeping patient's room clean and orderly, as assigned. 14. Adhering to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct. 15. Participates in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities. 16. Respectful of patient and family/caregiver environment and patient's personal needs.
