TITLE: Junior Associate - Immigration


DUTIES: Under the direction of the department's immigration partner, research and analyze decisions by Federal District Courts and by the Board of Immigration Appeals regarding the granting of asylum and withholding of removal. Research, document, and stay abreast of changes in U.S. federal policies and/or country and socio-political conditions that can affect clients’ eligibility for asylum and withholding of removal. Draft Memoranda of Law. Conduct client interviews and review documents such as police and medical reports, affidavits, and court orders in order to prepare strong affirmative and immigration court-based asylum applications, identifying potential issues. Review, analyze, and catalog documents provided by clients and draft and review with clients affidavits for the filing of waivers and asylum applications. Draft motions to reopen and motions to reconsider. Prepare appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals, researching the relevant case law and identifying the best arguments in support as well as areas of weakness. Update and manage comprehensive status reports and keep clients informed of their case status. Draft USCIS forms, review and analyze supporting documents, and ensure compliance with USCIS instructions for the filing of petitions.


REQUIREMENTS: Must have a Juris Doctor (JD)/Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from an ABA-approved school of law, plus license to practice law in a U.S. state and 6 months of experience as a Law Clerk, preparing affirmative and court-based asylum applications, reviewing and drafting affidavits for waivers and asylum claims, drafting motions to reopen and motions to reconsider, and drafting appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals.


HOURS: 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M)
