Job Title: Chemical Engineer IV, Chemical Technology Solutions

Job Duties:

Perform process design reviews for equipment including Heat Exchangers, Pumps, Compressors, and Absorbers and material of construction selection, including stainless steel, nickel alloys, and non-metals, related to client project needs in Chemical Manufacturing or Oil and Gas Production to identify and communicate key interests for project success.
Perform complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles to support process design in various stages of project development, FEL 1-3 and detailed design.
Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) with Material & Energy Balances (MEB) for proper equipment selection, energy consumption estimates, utility requirements, and process efficiency determination.
Perform equipment sizing and selection in the chemical or renewable energy industry in support of client key interests and drivers, based on process conditions from the PFD/MEB.
As a project discipline lead, manage project budget, schedule, and quality requirements for the department.
Conceptualize the initial project design approach in the chemical and renewable energy fields, based on project specifications, process modeling using Aspen Plus process simulation and modeling software, to perform complex engineering calculations and process development for equipment or process selection.
Review engineering work and assignments of junior Chemical Technology Solutions Engineers.
Conduct complex process evaluations of existing systems to identify opportunities for efficiency upgrades including feedstock recovery, individual unit operation system review, production increase, and product loss reduction, based on Material and Energy balances, OEM equipment specifications, and good engineering practices.
Coordinate engineering design with client, vendor, and multiple disciplines including Mechanical, Structural, Civil, Electrical, and Project Manager or Engineer, to deliver high quality design on schedule and budget.
Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers for incorporation into projects.
Communicate client interests to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate any concerns in project work performance.
Provide support to business development as a subject matter expert including site visits, participation in technical conferences, and client update meetings.
Design a complete project scope within assigned practice areas including understanding process requirements, developing, and selecting appropriate unit operations to achieve product or project expectations, quality requirements, product rate, and feedstock efficiency.
Remain current regarding design guides, standards, systems, and applicable engineering codes, including American Petroleum Institute (API), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Process Industry Practices (PIP) Standards, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Process Safety Management (PSM).
Incorporate safety standards into process design as a client key interest.
Perform Quality Assurance or Quality Control reviews on projects as an independent reviewer and work effectively in a multi-discipline team setting, to aid with managing the project discipline budget, schedule and quality requirements.
Witness Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to verify the complete functionality of vendor supplied equipment.

This is a hybrid position. The candidate must live within commuting distance of the office and must travel to the office 2 times per week.

Education Required: Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. Will accept a foreign degree.

Experience Required: 8 years of experience as a Process Engineer or Chemical Engineer in Chemical Manufacturing or Oil and Gas production.

Special Requirements: Demonstrable knowledge of and prior experience in:

Chemical Manufacturing or Oil and Gas Production to identify and communicate key interests for project success.
Aspen Plus process simulation and modeling software, to perform complex engineering calculations and process development for equipment or process selection.
Development of Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) with Material & Energy Balances (MEB) for proper equipment selection, energy consumption estimates, utility requirements and process efficiency determination.
Equipment sizing and selection in the chemical or renewable energy industry in support of client key interests and drivers, based on process conditions from the PFD/MEB.
Incorporating safety standards into process design as a client key interest.
Working effectively in a multi-discipline team setting, to aid with managing the project discipline budget, schedule and quality requirements.
Understanding the application of regulations, codes, and standards, including American Petroleum Institute (API), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Process Industry Practices (PIP) Standards, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Process Safety Management (PSM).

Travel Requirements: Domestic travel up to 1 trip per month up to 5 days per trip. International travel up to 2 trips per year, up to 14 days per trip.

Work Hours: Full time, 40 hours/week. Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 pm.
