Hydrogen for Mobility Lead Process Safety Engineer
to join our team!

An
exciting opportunity
for a self-starting, technically strong individual to rapidly make a real contribution to Air Products business success, in the dynamic,
fast growing hydrogen for mobility market
, working with internal and external hydrogen safety experts globally.

Air Products is making major investments in the hydrogen for mobility market, including hydrogen production, transportation, storage and fueling station infrastructure. For all these investments,
safety is critical
(link removed) Accidental releases of hydrogen can have high impact on both people and property. As an early mover in this market, Air Products faces unique opportunities and challenges working with and influencing regulators / permitting authorities, as well as improving industry standards. There is also an ongoing need to improve understanding of
hydrogen safety fundamentals
such as fires and explosions, working internally and externally with other leaders in the industry. Air Products has successfully provided leadership in these areas for many years in the USA. This new position has been created to lead this effort for Europe. The position reports into the global Central Process Safety team, but will work closely with the Europe business and technical teams responsible for Europe hydrogen for mobility strategy, opportunity development, project execution. While primarily focused on Europe, this position will also support other regions over time.



Responsibilities

Develop a high level of expertise in
hydrogen hazards, risk assessment and risk mitigation
, learning from experts in Central Process Safety and externally.

Establish and cultivate working relationships with country regulators
to get early notice of potential project challenges and finding ways to address them. Work to influence and guide regulation requirements, based on best-in-class process safety fundamentals and application.
Represent Air Products in the development and improvement of industry, national and international hydrogen safety standards, working with the Air Products technical teams.
Represent Air Products on relevant Europe based Joint Industry Programs (JIPs) focused on hydrogen process safety fundamentals, through field trials.

Support project execution teams
in Europe where required, to address complex technical challenges and issues with permitting if they arise, to enable successful execution.
Support regional process safety with investigation and analysis of hydrogen incidents and near misses.


Requirements

Strong demonstrated technical capability. Ability to successfully take on new technical challenges.
Track record in Process Safety preferred, but not essential.
Excellent communications skills, preferably with experience presenting externally at conferences, technical associations etc.
Ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple effective way to non-experts inside and outside Air Products.
Self-confidence to establish external relations and build network of contacts.
Self-starter, able to operate effectively without day-to-day supervision.
