Costco Wholesale Corporation is seeking a BI Engineer for its Issaquah, Washington office.

Job Duties: Deliver, design, and support of high visibility desktop reports, mobile reports, and dashboards. Leverage BI applications in accordance with application development standards and best practices. Translate business needs into technical specifications to deliver customized reporting systems. End-to-end development and support of Costco’s BI reporting environments for ongoing metrics, reports, and dashboards. Design and develop proof of concept and prototype application environments. Create data visualizations that illustrate data learnings and insights in an understandable and user-friendly manner through UI / UX design. Document BI application specifications and produces operational support manuals. Analyze business needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints, including the ability to estimate work needed. Assess functional and nonfunctional requirements and creates designs to meet both business and technical needs. Design, build, and maintain automated reporting, dashboards, and analysis to enable teams to self-service data needs. Define technical requirements such as tool or platform selection criteria for the reporting environments. Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, and optimizing BI capabilities. Identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality of data management required for building BI applications and reports.. Telecommuting permitted.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field. Plus one year of experience in: Creating data visualizations that illustrate data learnings and insights in an understandable and user-friendly manner using UI/UX design through Power BI; Writing and understanding the complex SQL codes on the fly to fix any database error and perform various data related operations, including storing, retrieving, and manipulating data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements for Database design; Documenting the ETL operations and the database designs and updating the existing documents to reflect the current changes in the system; Troubleshooting and Resolving the input data from heterogenous sources on time and making sure the database is updated with the most recent and high-quality data; and Assisting in solution design efforts including analysis, data warehouse design, and architecture, with an understanding of the data warehouse or data marts implementation related to BI.

In lieu of Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field, plus one year of experience as described above, employer will accept three years of experience in: Creating data visualizations that illustrate data learnings and insights in an understandable and user-friendly manner using UI/UX design through Power BI; Writing and understanding the complex SQL codes on the fly to fix any database error and perform various data related operations, including storing, retrieving, and manipulating data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements for Database design; Documenting the ETL operations and the database designs and updating the existing documents to reflect the current changes in the system; Troubleshooting and Resolving the input data from heterogenous sources on time and making sure the database is updated with the most recent and high-quality data; and Assisting in solution design efforts including analysis, data warehouse design, and architecture, with an understanding of the data warehouse or data marts implementation related to BI.
