Controller

Our client owns a group of non-manufacturing companies and is seeking a new member for our accounting management team to replacement a retiring member. The Controller will office full-time at our corporate headquarters in Saint Joseph, MI and provide hands-on support and guidance to our existing accounting support staff of three, while also managing day-to-day operations of this team. This position does not require travel and is an in-office role. The ideal candidate will have experience managing direct reports and must be comfortable working with multiple business entities. This position will report to the CFO.

Responsibilities of the Controller:

• Providing analysis, management reporting, planning, and accounting support to our growing businesses.


• Oversee day-to-day accounting activities and manage staff of four


• Direct month-end close; prepare journal entries and account reconciliations


• Intercompany account reconciliations


• Perform budget variance analysis


• Monthly Financial reporting package, including preparing executive summaries


• Prepare year-end workpapers for Outside Auditing and Tax firm


• Creating and preparing financial analysis

Qualifications for the Controller:

• Bachelors degree in accounting, with major coursework in business, finance and accounting


• CPA preferred; CMA considered.


• 5+ years accounting experience; minimum 3 years of management experience


• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook


• Experience with Great Plains and Power Bi is a major plus


• Experience creating work-flow efficiencies and automating business processes strongly preferred


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


• Effective leadership and relationship-building skills


• A self-motivated, self-starter.


• Experience working with inventory, specifically understanding the process of cycle counting and reconciliation.
