HCA Solutions is seeking an Associate Epidemiology Specialist for Department of Health - Bureau of Epidemiology in Harrisburg, PA

This is a full-time, contracted, W-2 position.

Shift: 830am 430pm
Remote Opportunity

Role Description

Undergo PA-NEDSS and CITI training, independently and under limited supervision.
Adhere to PA-NEDSS, CITI, and broader security protocols and protect confidential patient/employee information.
Gain access to and proficiency in occupational safety and health datasets, including, but not limited to, in-patient hospitalizations, PA cancer registry, Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII), and the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI);
Work closely with the Associate Toxicologist. The Associate Toxicologist will provide expertise and oversight of PennOSHS program management by the Occupational Associate Epidemiologist Specialist.
Calculate and review CSTE/NIOSH Occupational Health Indicators and create relevant annual and ad-hoc reports using appropriate datasets.
Perform data cleaning and statistical analysis using SAS or R software.
Prioritize occupational safety and health concerns and plan occupational safety and health activities/interventions, as needed.
Lead occupational safety and health advisory committee of relevant stakeholders and convene biannual virtual meetings.
Draft manuscripts for publication, independently and in collaboration with team members, with a goal of at least one manuscript publication per year.
Attend and present at state, regional, and national conferences (e.g., CSTE, NIOSH winter meeting, Governors Occupational Safety and Health conference, Northeast Occupational Health Network, Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference on Occupational and Environmental Medicine, etc.);
Participate in collaborative calls and meetings with other state occupational safety and health surveillance programs, CDC/NIOSH, CSTE, state agencies (e.g., Labor and Industry [L&I] and Department of Agriculture), and other state and regional stakeholders (e.g., construction partners);
Attend meetings and be in regular contact with internal partners to ensure situational awareness of other occupational health activities that are occurring in the Bureau of Epidemiology, especially the activities that are under the Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) program and the State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP);
Work with internal DOH stakeholders to prioritize occupational safety and health measures, including industry and occupation, in surveillance efforts.
Develop a continuing education course for occupational safety and health professionals, independently and in collaboration with the Outreach Specialist.
Develop and maintain interactive public-facing dashboards that use PA occupational health data (e.g., Occupational Health Indicators);
Update the DOH occupational safety and health webpage, as needed.
Assist the Associate Toxicologist in Adult Blood Lead Epidemiology and Surveillance (ABLES) program work to summarize and mitigate adult lead exposure in PA.
Conduct lead investigations as part of ABLES and other follow-up activities ad hoc.
Collaborate in program evaluation efforts, including evaluation planning and assessing performance measures.
Mentor and assist the PennOSHS intern on occupational health projects.
Communicate concerns or problems to supervisor and/or other staff.
Provide updates to the supervisor and Associate Toxicologist.

Minimum Qualifications

MPH or related degree (social sciences, demography, biological sciences), Experience in an applied public health setting preferred but not required.

Knowledge of public health practices and infectious diseases principles.
Knowledge of methods for developing infection control policies and procedures using outbreak data.
Ability to read and interpret written materials.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to use public health data and to perform public health surveillance activities including reporting.
