Senior Manager, Comprehensive Assurance

Reporting to MMC Pacifics Head of Monitoring & Oversight, this people leader role is responsible for assessing and evaluating effectiveness, efficiency and consistency in implementation of relevant Mercer and Marsh R&C policies, and key entity level controls over material risks and compliance obligations.
Critical to these responsibilities is the ability to understand the business and ensure strong engagement with both key internal and external stakeholders.

We will count on you to:


Develop a deep understanding of the business model, strategy, risk appetite, and risk profile, as well as the external environment.
Evolve the Line 2 monitoring and oversight (assurance) program, ensuring it remains aligned to strategic objectives, material risks/obligations, and industry emerging risks.
Lead execution of Line 2 comprehensive assurance in accordance with the agreed annual plan and (review) terms of reference: objective, scope, methodology, and timing. The scope of activities may extend both within and across Practices and Support Functions.
Maintain a robust methodology, supported by appropriate tools and operating procedures for planning, execution and reporting over Line 2 comprehensive assurance activities.
Identify inefficiencies in processes and recommend necessary action to implement productivity improvement(s).
Provide transparency of Line 2 assurance activities through fact-based observations and (actionable) recommendations, supported by appropriate rationale and evidence.
Manage relationship with MMC Internal Audit and relevant external assurance providers.
Prepare (and present) concise and meaningful professional risk and compliance reports to relevant management and board level risk forums and committees. Reporting includes planning, progress and outcomes arising from monitoring and oversight activities.
Track and monitor resolution of issues arising from Line 2 assurance activities.
Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders, enabling execution of strategic priorities through clear communication, cooperation and coordination.
Share learnings from executing assurance activities with peers both locally and globally, including (but not limited to) the MMC LCPA Monitoring Centre of Excellence.
Cultivate a culture of belonging, improved accountability, and elevated learning and development.
Set priorities, motivate, coach and monitor performance of direct report(s).



What you need to have:


At least 5 years working in a similar risk, compliance, legal and/or audit role within a financial and/or professional services environment related to superannuation, insurance, managed investment schemes, custodian arrangements, funds management or investments. Work experience should demonstrate depth in the practical application of risk management.
Demonstrable experience of influencing multiple stakeholders across a diverse range of activities.
Experience working in or providing services to a regulated financial services business, with an ability to interpret and apply associated legislative requirements.
Understanding of the Australian Superannuation (and associated) regulatory landscape.
Strong stakeholder management skills including the ability to foster and build strong relationships/rapport with key business partners.
Demonstrated ability to support a wide variety of initiatives simultaneously.
Technical competency in the areas of operational risk management, compliance systems and frameworks (eg. conflicts management).
Ability to operate at strategic, tactical and operational levels, with an eye for detail and focus on high quality output.
Facilitator of outcomes that take into consideration multiple (and often competing) stakeholder perspectives.
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written. Includes ability to communicate complex matters in a commercially sensible way.
Project and change management, including ability to lead targeted assurance reviews end-to-end (ie. planning, assessment, and reporting).
Makes sound recommendations based on analysis and findings in reporting to various committees.
An ability to think laterally with strong problem solving and persuasive skills.
